High Capacity Magazine Question

My dad recently gave me his M1 carbine last weekend but I have some concerns/questions.

First off, he has a few what appear to be 15 and 30 round magazines. I'm I allowed to keep those since they're obviously from an old gun if it was gifted to me correct?

Secondly, if possession of them is not an issue, can I buy parts for them, such as springs for the magazines, since they're probably worn out?

Finally, would I be able to take those magazines out to the range without getting in trouble?

Please pardon my ignorance but I want to make sure I'm covered. The laws are very confusing.

Thanks for the info guys. I purchased a couple of 10 round magazines at Turner's because unfortunately this is the answer I expected to hear. I was really hoping that I could legally keep at minimum as collector items.

On a side note, if the base plate of a 30rd 556 mag is is changed to say 458 socom. Which can only accept 10rds of that caliber, would that be considered a legal CA magazine? Or still a high cap mag because it can potentially fit 30 of a smaller caliber? I read a 10rd mag can only hold four 458's

Im not sure what's worse, that this is the 1000th thread like this or that theres members that have been here long enough to read at least 100 of those threads still asking about 458 mags and finding hicaps.

When I was a kid my uncle gave me an old ammo can - all that was in it was a dozen or so empty 15-round M1 Carbine mags. I remember thinking, wow, what a crappy gift. I still have them - I wish he was still alive so I could thank him properly.
