    Why so expensive?

Was thinking my first free state purchase would be a 1911 with threaded barrel and a silencer.

WOW, they cost more than many guns. Why? And I am not including the tax stamp.

What costs more? The can? Suppressors market is the same like guns. There are cheaper ones and higher end ones. Have you looked into Form 1 building your own?

the pistol with threaded barrel you just have to find the right one or go with a simple glock and add a threaded barrel and you are ready to accept a can pretty inexpensively.... then you gotta find a can you like and just like Paperchasin said, the market is like guns... you are going to have the cheap and expensive choices.

good luck and enjoy the freedom when it happens

I know guys in NV that rolled their own using the form 1 method.
We shoot together so I get trigger time and burn all the ammo I bring.
        NFA stuff too. [emoji16]
Here's a link to good info on silencers.

I just got a few demo suppressors in recently from a FFL that gave up his SOT. They are in great condition. I'm selling them at a very low price so PM if you want to save a lot of money. My form 3s are getting approved in 24 hours.

Make sure you read up on what pistols are good at suppressing. Not all are timed right. Glock is one of the worst. Sig P22x and HK guns are quieter.

P226/P220 is probably the best platform to suppress. My legion is hearing safe with 15i and heavier bullets. 147 is also hearing safe but there is still a little snap.

There is nothing to them. $10 worth of materials, some CNC work and Pedro puts it together. I'll never foot the bill for one myself.

I got a match grade blem threaded bbl for 1911 from Brownells for $95.

Silencerco Hybrid was $800. $200 stamp and 367 days wait ...

So much fun to shoot! Need better sights.

Better cans are made with expensive/exotic materials. Materials with better corrosion resistance and heat resistance than more common materials.

While we're on the subject of suppressors... One of the guys I used to work with (who was a sketchy dude and not very bright) was talking about buying an aluminum solvent trap kit and trying to make a suppressor out of it. I researched it a little bit and it seemed that the general consensus was that aluminum suppressors are pretty much a time bomb waiting to blow. Anyone care to enlighten me on that? I haven't seen him in a few years, so he could be dead as far as I know

Thanks. I may be back. For my first purchase I would prefer an in person hands on experience.

Sounds good. If you have any questions let me know. I use suppressors more then most dealers since I have a personal range. I've talked a lot of people out of suppressors or the models they want based on their expectations vs. reality.
