The only time I ever received a package from an Amazon order that was not in a non-descript brown cardboard box with Amazon tape on it, was when the item was being sold by a third party with Amazon being the facilitator.
^Didn't notice this until after it was shipped.

If the box is sturdy a lot of NOT fulfilled by Amazon parcels are shipped this way. No reason to hide it as there's nothing wrong with the picture. It wouldn't even occur to the vendor to disguise it because San Franciscans might be offended by the picture.

The apartment complex can't keep a separate lock box for each tenant apparently and they can't place in front of your door..

Basically the same as leaving a parcel on your front porch... In plain sight.

Someone on my street has a spring kit for a 1911 from Brownells that was addressed to me. My letter carrier is the worst. Brownells was great and resent the order.

Your mailman knows everything about you by the mail you get. My wife was a letter carrier. Your letter carrier knows everyone on their route that gets American Rifleman.

It was shipped by Amazon and had a disclosure. OP didn't pay attention.

Geez do any of you actually look over your orders before pushing that button to complete the purchase? Every item that Amazon ships (not third party) will have an option for discrete packaging if they know they will be shipping the item in the original box and not a shipping package. Has been this way for years.

I ordered a gag gift a ways back for a bachelor party and it came like that with no other box. The delivery person has never looked at me the same way since.

Just looked at the original Amazon sales page for product and I MISSED the "Packaging may reveal contents. Choose Conceal Package at checkout." This is not my first gun accessory purchase from Amazon so I'm used to auto-discretion. Will read more carefully next time but these Amazon sales pages have so much info on them.

I am going to assume most people in SF who own firearms are transplants from other cities. I grew up in the Midwest and have owned guns for 20 years. I know how to handle them properly and there is no issue. But for Bay Area people born & raised here, there is a stigma there, and sadly, SF people like to judge. Its a very polarizing topic here, especially with the flood of shootings littering the media. Also, there is a reason this product had an option to discretely ship, there is a reason BudsGuns states that items will be shipped discreetly, and there is a reason I DID check the box on Target USA to ship my case of 9mm in another box. To all of you cowboys giving us crap about being afraid, or its no big deal...well, it is. I have a kid and I don't want a parent to decline playdates in fear that their kid will get shot by mine....I don't want Old Lady Jeannine in unit #235 to keep peering out of her window watching me with one finger on speed dial to the ATF, and lastly, I do not want to sit there and debate guns with neighbors. Gun ownership is personnel and my business...I don't like to "show & tell" my guns, I only "show & shoot."

either way, i'll continue to have amazon prime and use amazon. short of bezos organizing a personal army to collect firearms from their owners, i'll keep using amazon.
Yes Inspector Clouseau, the box was opened by me. As mentioned, I'm returning it, because I tried to fit it in a >2 cubic ft safe and it didn't work out, thus the return label on it. If you have access to some good sorcery where you can teleport the product out of the box without opening, please sir, do share! I will continue to use Amazon Prime as well and never once made a call to action that we should drop our accounts. Read the other comments, this has happened before to others as well.... but thanks for the positive vibes.

ok the important part ... Why are you returning it, I was actually looking at buying the same thing so why didn't you like it ? *** EDIT I see you say it didnt fit where you need it, you posted while I was typing. ***

And I don't live in SF, I don't live in your neighborhood with your neighbors but I think that is part of our (our = gun onwers) problem in California, we have gotten to the point where we are afraid to own guns, we hide that we own guns from everyone and that to the gun grabbers makes it look like we are even more in the minority then we are. Granted maybe with your neighbors that is a good thing, i don't know them. But all my neighbors know I own guns, they all know I reload, its very obvious when they walk into my garage and as far as I know, i am the only gun owner on the block since no one has ever offered or wanted to go shooting with me.

I learned that lesson the hard way early in my marriage.

I'm a toolaholic. I have 5 toolboxes and a garage full of machinery. Nothing is better than a good tool to make a job go well.

So, one Christmas I bought a bunch of gifts for my wife thinking she would be overjoyed at how I helped make her job of housekeeping easier.

I bought an industrial shop-vac because the suction was so much better than those weak home vacuums, and with its large capacity she wouldn't have to empty it as often.

I bought her a top of the line dust-buster, a new set of pots and pans for the kitchen. A new toaster oven. I bought her some industrial strength Zep cleaning products and packages of re-washable terry cloth cleaning
                        towels, steel wool, sponges etc..

So, I'm sitting there truly excited, with this big proud smile on my face as she starts opening her gifts. But she was being unusually quiet.

Then came the tears. Then came the wrath. I quickly realized that if I didn't rectify this situation, at best I was going to be living in squalor the rest of my life .

I told her I would get her something as soon as the stores opened. Better yet, here is some cash go get whatever you want.

Men and women are truly different. I would have loved some gifts to make my work easier. And maybe women do too.

                        Just not for Christmas.

I have never gotten ANYTHING from Amazon like that. Even third party stuff. That's strange AF!

Amazon ships many other things without placing them in an "Amazon" box. It just depends on size and if it's own box is rugged enough.

It has nothing to do with "fearing" your neighbors, it has everything to do with privacy and discretion. Maybe thats why some of us dont get the print version of American Rifleman? Some people like to advertise the fact that they are a firearm owner, some people like to keep that private. It should be your choice either way and shippers should respect that. Sounds like in this case Amazon had an option that the OP missed, but there are a lot of sellers (pro and anti 2A) that don't give you that option and you are basically gambling hoping theu will spend a tiny amount of effort (paper wrap) to protect your privacy. While in this specific case it sounds like the OP missed an option, I think his overall point is still valid.
