If Glock made a rifle it'd weigh 1/3 less than an M4, look like hell, and be uncomfortable to hold. But it would also be indestructible, weatherproof, inexpensive, completely reliable, and easy as hell to field strip and work on. It'd be a piece of cake to modify and accessorize. California would ban it before the first one came off the assembly line.

The H&K "high reliability" magazine was the result of H&K trying to make a more reliable STANAG magazine for the RSAF/BAE SA-80 series.No it doesn’t. It needs STANAG mags. STANAG stands for standardization agreement. Early magpul mags weren’t made to STANAG spec. Any milspec stanag aluminum or steel USGI mag works perfectly in the HK rifle. I have three of them. ((HK’s) That’s where the mag problem came from. Using non stanag mags in the HK. Other rifles have problems with them too. The FN F2000, and the SCAR 16. I have both of those too and can confirm issues with non stanag spec mags. Just posting for info. Not trying to be a dick just trying to clear up any miss information.
In 1999, H&K was awarded a UK MOD contract to upgrade (fix) the RSAF/BAE SA-80 series (L-85A1 and L-86A1).
^As part of the fix to the SA-80, H&K created their "high reliability" STANAG magazine.
As a result, the H&K "high reliability" magazines then became the standard issue magazine for the UK MOD.
H&K then used those magazines in their development of the HK-416.
The main (casual inspection) difference between the H&K "high reliability" STANAG magazine and the standard STANAG magazines, is that they are entirely made of steel.
^STANAG magazines typically utilize an aluminum body & a polymer magazine follower (total weight 4.0 oz) and the H&K STANAG magazine utilizes a steel body & a steel follower (total weight 9.0 oz).
In 2011, the UK MOD adopted the Magpul EMAG as replacements for the H&K "high reliability" STANAG magazines.
Note...
Almost all European designed/made firearms that use STANAG magazines, do not work with non-STANAG spec magazines.
Examples... Beretta AR-70/90, Beretta ARX-160, Beretta RX-4, FNH FNC, FNH SCAR-L, GIAT FAMAS-G2, H&K G-41, H&K HK-416, HS Produkt VHS, RSAF/BAE SA-80.Last edited by Quiet; 03-11-2018, 8:15 AM.sigpic

So it's a $90 magazine, made to help fix the worst series of issue rifles in perhaps the last 80 years, (which still suck badly even after the Hk "fix") that nobody needs unless you're a boutique Calgunner right?The H&K "high reliability" magazine was the result of H&K trying to make a more reliable STANAG magazine for the RSAF/BAE SA-80 series.

Magpul PMAG was not made to STANAG specifications.
Which is why they didn't work (unless modified) in Euro designed/made firearms that use STANAG magazines. (the tolerances were off)
This caused Magpul made to make the EMAG, which works in Euro designed/made firearms that use STANAG magazines.
In their efforts to keep making the PMAG more reliable, Magpul made changes in the PMAG Gen M3 to make them compatible with STANAG spec firearms.
2007 = PMAG Gen 1 (not STANAG compatible)
2009 = PMAG Gen 2 (not STANAG compatible)
2009 = EMAG (STANAG compatible)
2013 = PMAG Gen 3 (STANAG compatible)sigpic

Which is why FNH, H&K, and SIG created American counterparts and built factories in the USA.
Legally, they are seperate companies... (foreign / American)
Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal S.A. = FN America LLC
Heckler & Koch GmbH = Heckler & Koch USA Inc
SIG Sauer GmbH = SIG Sauer Incsigpic

Not if the European weapon is so obviously superior to its American produced counterpart. Perfect example is the M60 machine gun. How many men would be alive or still have all their limbs if the FN MAG-58 had been selected instead of a machine gun like the M60?Comment

Aye, politics.
One of the reasons why the US Government Arsenal (Springfield Armory) was closed in 1968.
After the closure...
Instead of solely relying on Gov (designed/funded) made products that were approved by a Gov/Mil board, procurement would rely on commerically available products that would bid and compete for contracts.
Under the old system, the Gov designed/funded products would be treated more favorably than products that were not supported by the Gov/Mil board.
^One of the reasons why M14 was selected over the FAL and M60 was selected over the MAG58.
^Also why they resisted the adoption of the M16 as a replacement for the M14. The Sec Defense ended up ordering the adoption, over the objections of the board. Which also lead to the Sec Defense closing down the Gov Arsenal and the Gov/Mil board that ran it.sigpic
