    Army’s new m16/m4 program.

I keep seeing a lot of buzz about this. Different outlets and news sources.

If I were the US I would ditch the direct impingement but stay with the AR platform.

The HK 416 is battle proven piston driven longer range.

Didn’t the SEAL who killed bin laden carry one of these?

I wish Glock would make an assault rifle.

I’m a huge Glock fan. They make the best pistols. If they made a rifle in 556 6.5 or 308 I’d buy it and I’d bet you everyone in the world would too.

US Army canceled their Individual Carbine program in 2013.

After Phase 2 testing, it was concluded that there was no commerically available product that was a significant improvement over the M-4A1 Carbine.

        Phase 2 contenders were:
        Adcor Defense BEAR Elite
        Beretta ARX-160
        Colt APC
        FNH FNAC
        H&K HK-416A5
        Remington ACR

NSW DEVGRU is the only US SOCOM unit that still uses the HK-416.
Other US SOCOM units used the HK-416, but went back to the M-4A1 Carbine and it's variations (MK12 & MK18).

US Army AWG used to use the HK-416 and Glock 19 Gen 3, but were forced to go back to using the M-4A1 Carbine and Beretta M-9. Since AWG was tasked to develope and test new doctrine to be used by conventional forces, higher ups determined that they should be using standard issued equipment and not equipment that the AWG determined to be commercially available improvements over the standard issue equipment.

The bolt in the bolt carrier is the piston.

Stoner explained that in that patent.

I dunno, Maybe. But as the two of them were only about 10 feet apart, what difference does the make/model of the firearm used make?

Some of the contenders were better than the M4, but not so much better that they justified the COST to the military. It was a system wide cost calculation not an individual rifle function calculation.

Yeah, but that doesn't remove the fact that the M4 craps where it eats. And this is the draw back of a DI system.

too many cooks in the kitchen

They have been trying to upgrade for decades and haven't done it yet. What we have are a bunch of brass who have a financial stake in whatever billions of dollars will go into a proposed change of weapon. Will they make the best choice for the common soldier?
