It has. It saw that the so-called "compromises", when you show "good will" and only give up half your rights instead of all of them, without being given anything in return (and the other side coming for the remainder next year, for the next "compromise"), doesn't work, and changed accordingly.

Your ideas on what's "reasonable" are emotional, asinine, and driven by MSM narrative. The logic opposing them hasn't changed, what's changed is your emotions on the subject. Is that what you call "changing with the times"? If so, no thanks. Some of us are emotionally stable and prefer the NRA to use logic rather than emotions in their decision-making.

        Nick old boy,

What do propose? That the NRA do its last stand? Hold the line? What are you gonna do if the Dems win in 2018 and 2020? A2

I think the OP is wrong and not paying close attention to what the NRA has been up to. The NRA has always advocated for measures that make sense, like background checks and mental health issues. However, gun control advocates usually propose laws that are wholly unacceptable, like background checks AND registration, or widespread gun confiscation for anyone that seeks even basic counselling, knowing that they can use the NRA's objections against them (e.g., the NRA is opposed to background checks and doesn't want to stop mentally ill people from getting firearms). Gun control advocates have no real interest in measures that would reduce gun deaths other than the complete abolishment of the Second Amendment and private gun ownership.

The NRA has been slow to embrace social media and effective messaging, but has made significant improvements over the past year or two. Less Wayne La Pierre and more Dana Loesch is a good start, but we need more. Effective communication starts with spokespeople that look like us and/or our target audiences. The NRA gets it, but effective change in addressing the cultural war is slow.

Government policies (both political parties) since the 1960s have been pushing this country down the path towards Socialism. The Second Amendment is probably the only thing that can prevent the complete abandonment of the entire Bill of Rights and Constitution. While the economy appears to be humming along, it is dysfunctional and the minor detail of national debt and unfunded liabilities will come to a head eventually. It's hard to successfully confiscate assets and property when a significant percentage of the population is well armed.

So how many states are constitutional carry now?

Last year NRA/SHARE was poised to roll back suppressor regulations.

How long until carry reciprocity is enabled?

Joe Mainstream has been slowly moving more pro-gun as the decades pass.

Every time there is a mass shooting the media is happy to have a few weeks of programming laid out for them. But eventually viewer interest wanes, and attention goes elsewhere.

Remember how the narrative was that Sandy Hook changed everything - did it?

The easily excitable folks need to calm down and see what develops before running around with panic in their eyes. Of course, it doesn't help when there are a bunch of posters who constantly preach the defeatist mentality at every opportunity.

On a side note, it's odd that we have some new calgunners who are very vocal/critical wrt the NRA and gun rights...

Gun control is really about people control. That's why most of the world can't have one.

As I said in another thread, it's more about politics at this point, and the NRA's posture is losing them GOP electeds in purple districts.

If you're curious about why Trump and some other GOP pols came out of nowhere a week ago or so with what sounded like gun control messaging, it's because the GOP did an internal poll which came back with numbers on par, or worse on some policy proposals, as the Quinnipiac poll done around the same time. One of the top line messages from the consultant was that even moderate gun control measures could be worth 6 points or more to Dems at the polls in purple districts.

Public sentiment is changing, and you can either be at the table or on the menu. You can do your own version of some moderate proposals while in control - doesn't matter if they actually do anything, so long as you can say they do, and effectively "draw the sting" before midterms.

Just to give you an idea of what we're potentially looking at if there's a Dem tidal wave in the midterms as many/most expect. Here's some points from an email from an influential progressive political consultant that went out to Congressional COSs about legislative proposals in the works:

                    1. Reasonable gun restrictions on long barrel/high powered weapons that are generally considered weapons of war like the AR-15 and variants, not hunting rifles/single bolt action/shotguns for self defense/handguns for the same.

                    2. Training mandatory for all legal gun purchases

                    3. Limiting strength of bullets except for those used in high-power hunting rifles that do not have multiple shot capacity.

                    4. Limit magazine capacity and all magazines that are sold.

                    5. Much better mental health awareness/treatment and perhaps even training for gun sellers to limit sales even legally to these types of individuals.

                    6. Cooling off periods for purchasing (perhaps with caveats and exceptions).

                    7. The gun show loophole 100% must be abolished.

                    8. Gun safety training perhaps for children even along with DARE and Sex Ed?

                    9. Massive programs for guns to be returned for fare cash value to the government as completely voluntary no questions asked on legality of the purchase. Ignoring gun involvement in a previous crime may have to be part of the "no questions asked" sanctuary in order to get guns off the street, but I am not sure that is possible.
If public sentiment remains steady into the midterms, most of these are political winners and some of these would be mighty difficult to hold the GOP voting bloc together against.

More liberalism. Between the mass immigration of the "hands out" crowd (50 million new democrats) and millions of American kids programed by their college professors (more democrats) we will see more of what we already have too much of. (Democrats).

Between the NRA and Trump the entire discussion has been changed from "more gun bans" to CCW in schools and addressing the mentally ill.

They even have liberals talking about CCW in schools as an option.

For the first time in 35 years we are winning and people are actually listening to fact, but you want to cave to mainstream???

And look how well the ban on machineguns has worked out. Other then a few wealthy people and the Government only criminals have machineguns.

I sent $300 to the NRA yesterday OP, I do not and will not support ANY restrictions on guns or bans on anything. Ever.

NRA is working overtime to solve the problems. Why blame falls to NRA when the failures of the last few of these debacles were gov failures.

OP - this whole debate is not about the NRA. It's about the 2nd Amendment and individual liberty. The left is using the NRA as a means to do away with the 2nd Amendment piecemeal by piecemeal. This is the way the left operates and they will not stop if we are willing to cave. The left will not blame those who allowed this to happen, they see it as an opportunity to go after the 2nd Amendment. You and these weak kneed Republicans are falling for this instead of standing strong. They are sharks and they smell blood in the water.
