The NRA, what will the future bring?

    Well,

The NRA of my father was an organization of hunters, target shooters, and sportsman. Gun rights, gun advocacy, legislative action but it changed.
It is still all the things I mentioned, but has since become an out of touch, money machine. Wayne LaPierre, has made sense up to about the Florida shootings.
The NRA has got to face the winds of change. If we gun owners are going to survive, we need an organization that will deal with change. That has a leadership that work with others to increase safety, secure gun rights, and work with legislators.
As gunowners here in California we have had change shoved up our collective asses for 25+ years. But at the National level things are going to require a philosophical change, the hardline is not going to work. Yes folks, the NRA will possibly eat **** to maintain the status quo.
The need for universal background checks, on all sales, mandatory storage requirements and further restrictions on the mentally ill. If a person makes a threat to a school his/her rights have to be temporarily suspended, weapons taken, and a weapons possession prohibition put in place.
In our country with social media, threats are made to easily and penalties too light. The Right to Free Speech does not cover threats. People need to understand if you make a threat their will be serious consequences.
The NRA needs to change its approach, and become more mainstream. I would like things to be as they were before, no waiting periods on long guns, no handgun roster. But the world has changed, and is changing. And the NRA needs to adjust to a changing world, or be General Custer at his last stand. Flame on, A2

When the Bill of Rights is no longer 'mainstream' then we are in a sad state of affairs.

Aren't terrorist threats already illegal? Aren't mentally ill people already prohibited? I am definitely for enforcing our current laws.

Would any of your suggestions stopped any of the current mass shootings? (serious question)

I upgraded my lifetime membership just days ago. I get a cool looking jacket.

            And when was this?

            The 1930's?

Because looking at an issue of THE AMERICAN RIFLEMAN from 1952, there are several articles pertaining to the NRA lobbying about 2nd Amendment rights and fighting off Anti-2nd amendment legislation.

So to say that was not what they have been about for a long time is patently false. And I could not disagree more with you about the infringements you have proposed.

            .

OP, I know you are scared. And you listen to the lame stream media and want to be cool like the other kids (Sheep). But there are times when you must stand tall for your rights. Don't be week kneed and stop listening to liberals.

You mean "mainstream" as in "mainstream media?" You think we can get a fair shot in the media or anywhere on the left if we just changed a bit? You really need to understand this war. Being nice and appeasing the enemy who is determined to crush you and is also playing dirty just doesn't work.

Also, gun rights have been EXPANDING tremendously in the past few decades. It's just us poor slobs in CA who are being screwed and where battle fatigue obviously kicks in. The rest of the country can't get enough of gun rights...

The only "common sense" gun laws are....well....there are no common sense gun laws. They should ALL be repealed.

No matter what laws are on the books, none have prevented or will prevent someone from doing harm to another.

And yes, I'm one of those that feel ALL firearms should be legal. No restrictions on the type of firearm that one wants to own.

The NRA will continue to fight the fight. So will all the other gun rights organizations.

If you follow Twitter, it will become very clear to you that these people aren't looking to expand background checks; they fantasize about door-to-door confiscations and you ending up dead like Vicki Weaver. There is no compromise that is appropriate with them.

What? USMCm16A2 posting anti gun sentiments on calguns? Impossible!

Of course you are against the NRA and for more restrictions.

You are the same guy who not three months ago here bragged about being on mind meds yourself.
