I watched some consumer drones in Syria drop what appeared to be RPG ordnance on a camp. Simple release mechanism kinda like on a dive bomber. Camera watched it hit the target.

FWIW, I was doing this back in the 60's with RC rocket gliders. It's not rocket science but sure things are more accurate now. Built them in my bedroom. Nothing deadly, just getting reactive metals and water together for a little hydrogen boom.

No engineering advances will make it happen. The inherent design (at least from currently available drones) has huge trade offs when it comes to payload, range and maneuverability.

If Excremento views that first video, expect drones to be banned in short order.

They already tried to pass laws to register them , and failed .

But have put many restrictions on them , so far from airports , not in any regional parks , not around people , neighbors can complain about invasion of privacy ( even with no camera and in your own yard).

But yeah , give them a chance cause diane Feinstein and nancy Pelosi don't want anyone spying on them naked ( now where is that emoji)

Note that drone laws are federal laws, regulated by the FAA. There (as usual) seems to be some confusion on here between state and federal.

                Wrong ,
                FAA has a set of rules/laws https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...i39TMrDXoIrzKN

California has a set of drone laws https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...Bkp9VfsYd48Di1

Where is the confusion ? There are laws for Federal , State , and Local . Just like our lovely gun laws .

                    Agree with everything you've posted.

I thought there was some confusion above about (federal) licensing and the comment about "Kommiefornia". It wouldn't be the first time I've seen people on this board generally complain about "all these ****ty laws in California" when the law at issue is federal.

Currently in micro drones the battery are what are holding them back tech wise. On a drone that small the current run time is 3 to 4 minutes of non aggressive fly time on new batteries. That is with out a high level processor or anything else fancy.

Thanks - I agree - I was hopping this thread would gravitate towards the original question but all other discussions are welcome.
Shape charges are not difficult to design - Just penetrating a human scull with a small object - Chemical deployment even easier.

The power source is what my question was directed to.

The other day some moron near Las Vegas flew a drone above one of the arrival corridors into Las Vegas McCarran airport.

The rule in aviation is "see and avoid", except these little buggers are hard to spot until you're very close. Too close. They may not be able to bring down an airliner but they're as bad as birds when it come to small airplanes like mine.

If owners could be relied upon to operate them responsibly, there would be no need for any drone regulation. But we all know at least one idiot who is just itching to show off, and that's the idiot who spoils things for everyone else.

The core problem is that they are much too easy to fly. There is no discipline required to master them, so there is no respect when it comes to flying them.

Except for the last 10 to 15 years drones have been available not a single airplane of any size has been downed by a hobbyist or commercial drone.
there are dozens of videos out there of drones hitting airplanes and helicopters and the truth is Birds are a bigger danger to you then drones.
I do agree with part of what you say in regards to idiots showing off but again no planes have even come close to being damaged or downed by a drone.

I do agree to a point in this, anyone can pick up a DJI or clone and get themselves into trouble, but this comes down to parents doing the right thing. If we start regulating drones then we are no better then democrats that regulate guns or other things.
