I've been to Havelins, searched Numrich, Gunbroker, eBay, etc. and have had no luck finding a replacement hood for my father's 22. The rifle is a Wards Western Field 22 s/l/lr single shot bolt action with the model # 04M 390B. As I recall, it's a 1940 model. It was actually made for Montgomery Wards by Mossberg and is sort of a parts gun in that Mossberg dipped a little bit into different parts bins to build it. What I'm looking for is the sight hood. (Picture below.) The sight and hood are from Mossberg's Targo model which was a smooth bore 22 designed to shot 22 shot shells. (It came with clays and a hand thrower as well as a rifled barrel extension for shooting regular ammo.) Apparently the Targo model is a bit of a collectors item and the hoods are somewhat rare as many were either broken or removed and lost. What usually happens is that one or more of the tiny tabs on the bottom of the hood break off. (As in the case of my rifle.) They have to be carefully handled when removing and installing them. The hood must only be squeezed just enough to take the pressure off the tabs and then the hood is slid rearward and then removed.
So, has anyone seen one of these available anywhere? A long shot, I'm sure, but I thought I'd ask.
Thanks!
