I get it now. When you wrote "on the back" of your elbow earlier, I thought you meant where your tendon that attaches your tricep to your elbow is. To me that's the back of the elbow.

Yeah, I don't need no steenkeeng elbow pads. I'm naturally well padded, no pointy elbows here!

Last time I got olecrenon bursitis, wrapping the elbow with an ace bandage overnight got the swelling down quite a bit.

I would look for a foam pad to put under your elbow. You might want to consider putting rolled up blanket under your chest to take the weight off your elbow.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

It says SOUTH San Francisco. Trust me, very different. Even has a different area code.

I don't know what burstitis is, but the skin on my elbows feels like a cats tongue. Works really good for shooting prone.

If you find yourself in a fair fight, you're doing it all wrong.

Correction, right foot is sticking up.

My right hip joint is bone on bone. Waiting for hip replacement hopefully this spring. Attempting to turn my leg/foot to the right, especially when laying prone almost puts me into tears.

                    I know, I'm old.

Elbow bursitis, also known as "student elbow."
Had it myself years ago from the hard desk where I sat cranking out blueprints on a cad system.

I know too. I stopped doing things that hurt. Price for an old age.

Sure sounds like bursitis, the bursa is swollen and inflamed. You have gotten some good advice with ice, elastic wraps etc. And while it was suggested it is a good idea to get an elbow pad. I prefer Mc David Hexpads but any number of various brands will work. The amount of natural padding one has does not keep but may actually cause the excess pressure on the elbow in the prone position that irritates the bursa.

                              See a doc for cure.

For future and easy pads, an old sturdy pair off jeans/trousers, cut the legs, tie one end, and fill with packing popcorn, tie the other end. Make them any length you want and keep the in the trunk.
