Feed it quality NATO surplus as it was intended to be and you’ll be fine, unless your more interested in maximizing accuracy over ‘just shooting’ as you previously stated. Avoid soft point ammo as it can foul up the gas system if you shoot enough. Lots of great knowledge here, join and learn if you really want to get to know your future rifle. http://m14forum.com/forums.php#/

My Scout and Loaded shoot 168gr BTHP very well, 155gr and 175gr not so much. The Loaded which I scoped using an M14.ca CASM mount, SWFA 10x and Seekins rings can shoot MOA groups when I’m doing my part. I also dropped it into a USGI figerglass stock and upgraded the internals with USGI and Sadlak parts. Maximizing accuracy can get expensive with an M1A as other more knowledgeable and experienced owners can elaborate upon.

And as much as I enjoy shooting the scoped Loaded rifle, the iron sights of an M1A are the best of any true battle rifle around IMHO. I shoot my Scout with irons only.

Thanks for the info...nobody really broke it down for me, and that was my main concern for the M1a. I want a rifle that can be fed anything without spending extra money to make that happen. Appreciate the advice
