    Jeff Cooper

Just heard that Jeff passed away peacefully in his sleep. His wife Janelle and daughter Lindy were present.

I suppose it was inevitable given his failing health, but nevertheless it is a great loss to the shooting community.

We lost a great man today.. He was my hero..

Just think of how many American lives he saved by training them with modern fighting skills..

A great loss for the firearms world..

I hope CNN et al. cover what this man has done for this country. His modern technique must have saved countless lives. Just look at the position of the trigger finger on our troops in pictures from the Afghanistan and Iraq.

RIP Col. I'm going to miss your snippets in Guns & Ammo.

A great man has passed, with him gone one less devotee to 1911s.

RIP Sir, we will all miss you inspiring columns and writing. I will do a 21 gun solute for ya next time I'm out with my 1911.

I doubt there will be any mention made in the main-stream media of his passing. Maybe a newspaper blurb somewhere, but nothing near the amount of recognition he deserves.

Gentlemen of Colonel Cooper's stature rarely rate any recognition from today's media. Instead we concern ourselves with politicians, celebrities, athletes, etc etc.

Colonel Cooper was a warrior, plain and simple. From his service in the Corps fighting for America's freedom, to his time spent as a senior member of the NRA (and everything he did for the NRA's training programs), his "Modern Technique of the Pistol", all his writings and "Cooper's Commentaries", the establishment of Gunsite........... His contributions to our society go on and on.

We've lost someone who contributed more than most realize.

                    RIP Marine.

He was a cool guy and gave a lot to the gun community, but some of the stuff he spouted in his later years was outright crazy.

Yeah let's use Garands in Iraq!

edit: Tomorrow I'm going to fire some 223 and 9mm in the air because clearly this would never kill anyone. Ever.

I looked forward to reading Jeff Cooper every month. I would usually go to the back of the magazine read his comments and then read what Bart Skelton had to say. These men are the true genius of our kind. Rest in peace Colonel, you will be missed. I hope they start reprinting his older stuff in Coopers Corner, I would hate to see it go away.

                              Good job kid.

You've just managed to demonstrate in public your total & utter ignorance of the subject you are commenting on.

LtCol Cooper wasn't just a "cool guy" who ran a range down in AZ and had a column in Guns & Ammo.

Most everyone who knows anything about firearms and shooting knows who Colonel Jeff Cooper was. The depth of his contributions to the shooting world run far deeper than many people will ever realize.

You could stand to look beyond what you might have read in a Guns & Ammo column and try to get it through your skull who this man was.

Ever heard of the phrase "Standing on the shoulders of giants."? If you're not familiar with it, I suggest you look it up and attempt to understand how (and why) it applies to the man you're so flippantly commenting about.
