I got the question with the felony wrong because I was overthinking and assuming they can get their record expunged after a period of time, so the answer was convicted felons can not own or use a firearm.

So I went for it, and it was just as everyone said: common sense.

I took mine last Saturday. Passed with 29 out of 30 correct. I'd studied the CA DOJ study guide for a few days before.

The test is mainly common sense. I think one guy on here put it best, "Just assume a gun is like a killer shark and you'll pass with no trouble."

18 years old to buy a long gun, 21 to buy a handgun.

If you are really unsure about the test, make sure you wear a cup. If you fail the test the instructor kicks you in the nuts for being stupid.

If you answer the questions correctly as you would in a free state, you will fail. Not a joke it's true.

Just make sure that you think like an anti gun person. For example, if you get a question:

Microstamping, loaded chamber indicator and magazine disconnect:
                          a) Save lives.
                          b) Make guns more available in CA.
                          c) Are supported by 87% of people, and the rest are rednecks anyway, so their opinion doesn't matter.
                          d) All of the above.

Use your "anti gun common sense" to pick the correct answer, which is "d."

i took the test back when it was only required for handgun purchases. got a 29 out of 30. only question i missed was about cable locks and whether or not they were a safe way of securing a firearm. i said no, because a toothless meth addict could probably chew their way thru a cable lock. but apparently the answer was "yes" cable locks are a safe way to secure a firearm.

when they changed over to the new test that encompassed all firearms instead of just handguns, i retook the "new" test and it was literally the same exact questions. so i got 30 out of 30 that time.

My favorite question on the FSC test is "True/False: it is OK to shoot a firearm into the air to celebrate the 4th of July."

This "test" does nothing to prove that the test taker has knowledge of gun safety. It's just another fee imposed by the state disguised as a safety test.
