A couple of points that often come up are expansion and penetration.
Lucky Gunner gel tested quite a few handgun rounds for expansion and penetration--keep in mind that they used 3.64" barrel so your velocity might differ. That in turn could affect expansion/penetration. Here is a link to their .45 ACP results:
Lucky Gunner tests more than 110 different 9mm, 45 ACP, 40 S&W and 380 ACP handgun self-defense ammunition loads in ballistic gel with analysis and video.
If nothing else . . . you get to see some really neat pictures.Comment

What Rez said!"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain..."

My buddy had a negligent discharge at his room. 45 acp Federal HST 230g round.
It went through his computer screen and the bullet was stuck in the wall right behind. Bullet did not leave the room. I went to see it in person and I was surprised how low the penetration was. I think HST is a great HD round based on what I have seen.Comment

Yes, they all fall to ball. But they will fall faster and harder to Federal HST's. With the reasonable prices available on 50 rd boxes, the only reason I can see to use ball ammo would be if you have a gun that won't reliably feed hollow points. In that case a better option than using ball ammo would be to get a different gun and some Federal HST's.Comment
