Why not both? I have a G23 with an aftermarket 9mm barrel. I also reload so can make some mild .40S&W plinking rounds.

I shoot primarily .40, but then again I shoot USPSA Limited Major. I leave caliber wars to those who don't shoot nearly enough to discuss what really matters in shooting.

.40 recoils more because it hits harder. Simple physics.

I will take .40 over 9mm any day.

The FBI are pathological liars. They are the same agency lying about what happened in Las Vegas. Why anybody trusts their recommendation is beyond me. They chose the 9mm to save money on ammo and so women and pansy men could pass their qualifications.

          Same here! .45 then .40. Can't beat a good 1911.

And honestly the recoil can be dampened some with a heavier # recoil spring since most 40's are under sprung from the factory. I put a 22# spring in my G22 I had and it felt like a 9mm and ran solid everytime. Want me another one, or a G23. Gotta put my new 20# spring in my M&P to see how it feels.

I like the .40, and have 3 pistols: a Glock 23, 35 and a Springield XD Tactical. I shoot them a lot, nearly entirely with 175 gr cast powder coated bullets that I make by the bucketfull. I shoot several other calibers because shooting is fun for me, no matter what round, so I can’t really say that any of them is a favorite.

But, 40 S&W is definitely a player in my stable.

You're right, cant beat a good 1911 so.... I picked up a 1911 chambered in 40s&w! It gets me double hate, one for having a 1911 in anything other than 45acp and two for being a 40s&w.

You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.

Yep, diversity is a good thing...recall, only a few years back, ammo was tough to get (due largely to hoarding). So, having a variety of calibers is a good thing.

I don't even own a 9mm. I have lots of 40's though. It is my favorite caliber to shoot, and what I use for CCW.

If you like the 40, use it. There is nothing wrong with the cartridge.

                            I'm a .40 guy and P229 are a perfect match.

I have a G22, G23, and G27, and no 9mm Glocks. The .40 is my favorite pistol caliber; although I don't feel undergunned with a 9, I have more peace of mind with a .40 and it fits my hand better than a .45 or 10mm. The recoil isn't uncontrollable if you know how to handle your firearm correctly. It's mostly a mental thing for me. I know the ballistic data and that the three most common pistol calibers perform roughly the same with comparable loads. Pistol calibers, in general, suck. But I'd rather go with the biggest caliber I can reasonably handle, with is usually the .40

Next to my Beretta Md.70 my G23 is my favorite gun to shoot. The .40 S&W is my favorite handgun caliber but since there are choices I have a few others as well.
