40 lbs isn't nearly enough. Any non-bolted safe should have a total weight (contents included) of at least 300lbs. I'm 5'11/170, and I can walk, drag, or maneuver a 300lb safe from a closet to my truck if I'm motivated (not up a staircase, though).

No, actually there's very little one can add to a safe to keep someone from shoving a 10,000 pound capacity pallet jack under it and wheeling it away - except bolting it down.

A few small holes in the concrete is not a major mod. When You leave just cut the bolts flush to the floor. If it is over carpet, mark where the holes will go, slit the carpet just a couple inches in a straight line and then drill the holes and place bolts. When you leave carefully cut the bolts back to floor level and the slits in the carpet will most likely never be noticed if you are careful. I am assuming the safe will be placed in a low traffic area like a closet?

You can add 300lb of weight and someone can still carry it out with a dolly.

Did u watch that video? There is no simulation of ammo stored in a closed steel safe that ignited in a fire. I store my ammo heavy duty rubber maid cabinets or open shelving so that they ignite in the same way as that video 🤗

I'm not able to currently bolt down my safe to the floor. Instead, I have been keeping a heavy weight in the bottom, every so often. I need to get a new weight. I found a cheap 40lb kettlebell on Amazon. What do you think?

I think you should weigh the safe down with more guns.
