Gun safe recommendation - is this any good?

I'm looking for a nightstand gun safe that has the following (can only find one w/ these features):

- Able to fit a CZ SP-01 (or a 1911 CMD) & one mag.
- Back-lit combination pad (don't want a key lock).

Anyone know if there are other options available?

Anything with the word "Portable" in it's add seems sketchy to me, but I suppose it depends on your need. The one you linked to looks good though.

If your purpose is to keep it out of the hands of toddlers, or fulfill some kind of legal requirement, then it should be fine. But an adult would take that entire safe with them, since there are probably multiple different tools in your garage that would cut that cable in a few seconds.

I have no youngin's in the house and for those that come visit, the bedroom gets locked (its off limits). I'd cable the nightstand safe to the frame of the bed. Most likely a bad guy breaking into the home would not have a tool capable of splicing the cable. Besides, he's looking for jewelry or cash (get in/out quickly).

If someone is breaking in your house they more than likely see that safe and use cable cutters or just break your bed frame. That safe, to me, looks like it would just fulfill the requirement to lock your gun in your car if you have a ccw

Those are designed to keep kids or BG from shooting you with your own gun not to prevent theft.

Trust me, if some one breaks in and finds that they will use all their time to take it rather than move on and take other things.

I use 3 night stand safes, if you must I do highly recommend the sentry "QUICK ACCESS BIOMETRIC PISTOL SAFE"

When on vacation all guns that stay behind get put in the big bolted down safe.

I prefer handgun safes with the Simplex lock system. No small "safe" is really safe. It is mainly to prevent children from getting to your handgun.

I have that safe and it is very good.

Access in 2 seconds and it can be opened with fingerprint, code, key or app. The cable is good and if you need to lock up in a car or hotel room it is perfect.

I use mine on my nightstand because I have kids I need to keep away from my gun but a thief will steal it immediately

Please, don't call it a "safe". Anything you can free with bold cutters and carry is not a safe. It is a security box, it will serve its purpose, but the purpose is not to keep your gun from being stolen.

BTFlyer has it right, it'll be great to keep the kids from getting to it but it does zero to keep a bad guy from getting your gun. In fact, it will serve as a bad guy magnet - once they see it, they gotta have it!

He probably wouldn't have to go any farther than your garage to find a tool capable of doing the job. Most garages contain an angle grinder, or a dremel, or a hacksaw, or a bolt cutter, or a jigsaw, or a regular wood saw for the bedframe, or an axe, or a large hammer, or any number of other tools.

Of course this all applies equally to large safes, except those would take much more time and effort to penetrate, especially when properly bolted down. The wire cable to your security box would only take seconds.

i am using one of these.
being able to bolt it to something that can't be dragged away is a plus, but i am not sure how well it might hold up to a large pry bar.
i actually have it concealed as well...

in any case, it's primary purpose is to secure the firearm from unapproved access rather than theft.

however, it is not designed to accommodate a spare mag.

I have a bolted in bedstand safe as well as several portable lock boxes.
The $99 price seems high for what you get.

Check out V-Line vaults. A bit expensive, but worth it.
