Yeah, until you just plunked down several hundred thousand for a chunk of god forsaken desert thinking at least you can shoot on it... and then realizing.... oops.

Yes, and the regulation said he needs a HALF MILE from any neighboring structure etc. That's 160 acres. Good luck on finding THAT little gem within 4 hours of anywhere that won't be $500K or more.

It is important to realise that an acre can be measured in any shape - from rectangles to circles or even hexagons - so long as the total area of land is 43,560 square feet.

The most common shape for an acre is 1 furlong by 1 chain, or 660 feet by 66 feet.

So for a half mile, 2,640 feet, the lot needs to be only 4 acres, if its 66' wide. But then you get into the question is half a mile from the side also required, or just the direction you are shooting. Realistically somewhere around 10 acres is all you would need, if its a square that would put you half mile from anything when in the middle. A friend owns 16 acres in the desert on the way to Vegas, goes out there with a motorhome and shoots all he wants legally.

No neighbors now. No law against some moving in.

Betting on no neighbors or good neighbors is a considerable risk.

You're not getting it. There are ALWAYS neighbors. Even if the don't live there full time or don't live there now. No matter where he buys, there WILL Be adjoining parcels of land owned by OTHERS! So... unless he owns 160 acres (good luck with that) it just isn't going to happen.

Little rock and phelan not in condor zone and target shooting has no non lead restrictions. 150 yard from dwelling applies.

Read the regs they lie east of the 14 fwy. If using shotgun for hunting non lead small and non game regs apply.

I looked at the map and it shows both towns in the Condor zone.

Note there are exceptions to the "no shooting" ordinance:

The provisions of this chapter shall not be deemed or construed to prohibit, within any district or area created under the provisions of this chapter, the establishment or maintenance of any pistol, rifle or target range, nor to prohibit the discharge at any target thereon, by any person using such range, of any bow and arrow, rifle, shotgun, pistol, revolver or firearms in or on such range, in the event that such range is so installed, constructed, safeguarded, equipped and used as to adequately prevent any arrow, bullet, shot or missile from being projected beyond the confines of such range.

                          [[[]]]

That means if you build a range that satisfies those standards, your range may be exempted from the "no shooting" ordinance. Of course, run this past the powers that would decide this, and get it in writing.

In LA, your chances are minimal unless your range is inside a building capable of satisfying those conditions. Even then, the location of that building would be a point for discussion.

State law is 150 yards while hunting.

There is no distance requirement while target shooting in state law.

I still would like to get a house out there regardless this would just be a fantastic bonus. It’s a long shot I know. But I figured I’d ask. I’m tired of city traffic coming home from work. I leave a few hours earlier and sleep on the job before start time to beat traffic. But good info thanks gents.

Like said above atleast I’ll be closer to hodge road while it’s still open.
