That's not how they would do it. They would use the registration as probable cause to go to your house and ask why you hadn't registered as an assault weapon. You would then have to commit a crime by lying to the cops and saying you got rid of them. They would ask who you sold them to or why you had all those rifles on a boat, etc. Then if you're ever caught with one out in public, it's a slam dunk case to throw you in prison. If they threw Martha Stewart in prison for lying to cops, your butt is toast.

That is assuming that you had not registered it or complied and made it featureless.

The manpower needed to do that not to mention to catch you out in public unless you are unlucky enough or stupid enough after that visit to go to a public range where they check your guns after the police visit would be so immense that there is no way that they could do it even if they wanted to! The police cant respond to real crime now! and technically it should be the DOJ who would knock on your door, last time I heard the CA DOJ had 2 staff members for all of California whose job it is to go and check that prohibited persons had sold / transferred all of their guns.

I am by no means suggesting anyone ever break any law, but that being said the gun laws are pure idiocy and apart from very bad luck or committing criminal acts with a gun the ability to enforce any of these new laws is next to nil.

If you want to be able ethically harvest pig/deer, go with something larger than .223/5.56, unless you are super confident in your marksmanship.

I'm not saying that you can't ethically hunt medium game with .223, but I personally decided against it because I'm new to hunting and I can't say I'm 100% confident in my ability to make that shot with that round.

Spend a 800-1000 on a nice AR and pick up a second upper in 6.8spc. You will want to be shooting cheaper 5.56 99% of the time and pull out the second upper for hunting.

Another option is an AR in 7.62x39. Cheap to plink and you can hunt with it as well. They have fixed the initial issues with the early 7.62x39 AR’s and they run pretty good these days.
