Works to a collector or other FFL, but violates the (non-USPS) companies' tariffs, and could lead to a refusal to pay insurance if there might be a problem.

As often as I receive someone else's mail, and my mail goes to someone else, I would probably feel safer just driving by the address and throwing the gun out the window as I went by. It would have an equal chance of reaching the intended person.I'm not that happy to see you - It's a gun.Comment

I'm reading here that shipping rifles is legal.
I need to ship an AR15 back to LWRC for repairs. They already sent me a label for FedEx.
My question is what is the best way to pack the rifle? I have the original box but it seems like it would need to be overpacked with another box that long.
Should I break the rifle down upper and lower?
Also is this shipping still legal after the first of the year?Comment

I just buy a hard-plastic rifle case and ship that way. e.g. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0029KH9FS (the case comes in an anonymous cardboard box)
Shipping is still legal via UPS and Fedex, though USPS doesn't want to.Last edited by FelixEstrella; 12-11-2017, 3:56 PM.Comment

Never ship firearm in package identified on outside as firearm plain packaging declare and insure with signature required. Avoid ups at xmas time. Firearms disappear. Use shipmygun.com if you wish. I ship long guns to myself and have never had a problem with usps only ups.Last edited by edgerly779; 12-17-2017, 9:14 AM.Comment

I believe it is required to notify the shipper if you are shipping a firearm, regardless of USPS, UPS, FEDEX, etc. so claiming machine parts or something else or even just not telling them could land you in hot water if the package is "randomly" xrayed and checked.
I ship guns more than i want to, often to myself. When I ship to myself I print out the postal regulations, take it to the post office, tell the clerk exactly what it is and that I am shipping to myself and if they balk at all I show them the printed copy of their own regulation. The instances where they have still balked, I just ask for the Postmaster.
When I ship to an FFL, I take along a printed copy of the receivers FFL and again, if there are issues ask for the postmaster. TYpically however, I use Fedex for shipping guns to FFLs, and usually overnight.Fear is the spare change that will keep you broke
