Going to Front Sight next month- any advise?

The other thing I could recommend is bring shooting gloves. My hands dry out like crazy there and by the end of the first day I'm bleeding. So I bring gloves and at least use one on my support side hand for most of the time.

If one is not used to shooting a lot then I'd recommend Nexcare 1" cushioned first aid tape instead of gloves. CVS n Walmart cary them. You will actually need them on your strong hand thumb most likely until you develop callouses.

My wife and I have been 10 times and enjoyed each session. Just go with the flow and have fun. We took our granddaughter (13) last year for the 4-day Youth Achievement Camp and she had a blast. She will attend this spring once more. Be aware that your shooting will experience good days and not so good days, but keep in mind you are there to learn and have fun. As far as accommodations, we like the cottages at the winery. They are self contained, with a full kitchen, bath and smoke free. The restaurant is 4 star and doesn't require a sport coat. FS attire is okay. Have a good time.

Took DHG a couple years ago in December. Temperature was never an issue, wind sucked. Dress in layers and bring gloves/hat. I ended up having to make two runs to Walfart to pick up warmer clothes.

Hydrate as much as possible, drinking cold water when chilled to the bone bites but you will need to do it as desert will still suck you dry. G2 powder or Pedialyte powder works good.

If you run the 229, be prepared for double action only for all initial shots out of holster. Not much of an issue if your practiced at it but some people never shoot anything but single action.

Bring two sets of shooting glasses. It will be dark by end of daily shoot. One dark tint for daytime, one bright yellow for late in day.

Tommy Cooper compression socks if you've got em, Blue Emu or similar to help with pain. Good boots as walking on crushed rock/gravel all day long.

You will sleep good at night, do not plan on any late night trips to casino or drinking.

If you want to ease up on ammo transportation, take 50-100 rounds, then after class on first day go into pahrump and buy ammo at (dang I can't think of name if that place, I'll get back to you on that) anyway it's priced good. It's on the left hand side just as you get into pahrump from front sight.
I like having lots of mags, I'd say 5 minimum, if you have one mag you don't like, or doesn't always work well, mark it and use it for malfunction drills, or use it as you shout for extra training.
I stop at Walmart in pahrump and get a bunch of bottles of Gatorade, peanut butter jelly sandwiches, some Pepsi and a few gallon sweet tea, and keep them in the ice chest, Gatorade I typically drink half then mix the other half with water, 1 for morning 1 for afternoon, eat the peanut butter jelly sandwich things for lunch or snack with Pepsi or tea Then a cold Pepsi or tea for the drive back to pahrump at end of day. I've also done bologna/cheese sandwich makings for lunches. On the way in I stop at the gas station at edge of pahrump (7/11 type) and fill my thermos with coffee, about 2 bucks maybe
They have first aid stuff, once you wear your fingers/hands you will find the hot spots and know where to tape them up

Dang, thanks, I didn't know that. Glad I do now.
I guess I'd get ammo from Walmart in pahrump or bass pro in vegas, the onsite vendor isn't awful high but does have quite a markup
ammosupplywarehouse.com in pahrump is an option, you can order there and pick it up there, fiocchi 1000 for 181.99/+tax as an example of their pricing, call them to see how pick up works and how late they are available for pickup

Ammosupplywarehouse is great and they are willing to open just about anytime to give you your ammo. They just request a call from you to give them a heads up beforehand.

Assuming you're driving there, i would just buy cheap ammo online and toss it in an ammo can in your trunk. I've never been to front sight, but all the classes I've taken I've always found it advantageous to remove the ammo from the boxes. You can fit over 2,000 rounds of 9mm loose in a 50 cal ammo can and its much easier to load mags when you have a can full of loose ammo right in front of you.

Although a full 50 cal can is very heavy, so consider two smaller cans if you're going to need to lug it around much.
