    gun show suprise

Got a free pass to the Ontario gun show this past weekend and to my surprise bag checks, empty your pockets, walk through a metal detector and a wand scan. Surprised security didn't grab my sack to make sure it wasn't a deadly weapon. I feel bad for the people that paid to go through that crap. At least I found some CCI 22lr (100 rounds) for $6.49 a box.

    Ha ha… funny.

Check your person for items that are on display, by the thousands, on tables just inside the door.

It could be bogus information but word of the floor was that the convention center manager - who was anti-gun - required the metal detectors in order to have the event.

The funny things were: 1.) that the metal detector staff were definitely not very aggressive in doing their search; 2.) you could bring in your checked and empty gun of choice but nobody cared that you could also buy ammo inside for said empty gun; 3.) there was another venue going on of a large group of 20-30 year old looking individuals. I did not see any checking going on with them and there was ample room for "hand-offs" between parties; 4.) I could bring my knife into the event - I just could not carry it through the metal detector; and 5.) if I was planning to do something crazy why would I do so in an area with ample guns, ammo, knifes and able bodied people who could likely take me out and thereby protect themselves?

Bottom line was that while amused I did not "feel" any safer due to the metal detectors.

the metal detectors was just extra cost to burden the show.

cut into the profits of the show so they have to raise ticket prices for entry and vendor booths, and it will in turn cut down on visitors.

Nope. Gun shows are dead. Prices are up and quality is down. Metal detectors did nothing to make the show safer. No more gun shows for me in California. Sorry smooth8500, just irritated.

Thought this was going to be about a sweet deal on topaz jewelry or bulk beef jerky.

Show organizers are going a fine job of reducing visitors on their own.

Get rid of the ginsu knives, eBay/swap meet junk, and Nazi memorabilia and you just might have a real gun show again.

Not going to happen with RK/Crossroads... it's the same path that RK computer shows went in the late 80s and early 90s that killed them.
You couldn't walk through the place because the isles were packed with morons watching demos for Slap-Chop and Ginsu Knives.

Home Depot should've had a truck rental stand there.

No grabbing necessary; that wasn't a metal detector, and, well, it IS a "wand" scan...

They were just as bad to the vendors. The thing that surprised me was that people were buying up that cheap eBay junk like crazy. I talked to a guy selling fake eotech and trijicons he sold a lot of them.

Welcome to Fortress America. Life here is getting ugly.

Seems all technology has brought us is a more clever devil. I need a wand for my front door.

I wish people would stop posting such FUD about the gun shows. It is actually TURQUOISE jewelry and bulk DUCK jerky.

I also was very surprised to see all that hardware at the entrance..At first
I was a little disappointed to have to go through what I believe is a B-sheet
attempt to give everyone attending a sense of "Security". From what ..,I don't know..BTW I was also carrying my trusty folder..
What REALLY ticked me off was the confiscation of food & drinks..WHY ??
There was a Husband & Wife that showed up with their daughters and were not allowed to bring anything in.

P.S. Walked out of the Show empty handed.
