Reminds me of working a new rig back in the day. Survive the FNG haze and they'll have your back. Things were a bit rougher back then. Dealt with it but didn't really buy into it so stuck to the friendlier approach. CG, to me, is pretty friendly. Sure, some factions can be coarse but that's what administration is for. IME, they do a pretty good job.

Drugs are bad, mmmkay?I truly believe calguns has run it's course. Back in 2011 some portions of the site were useful.
But 95% of the nonsense posted here is wrong, bad legal advice, fud, bragging or 40 year old gun store hangarounds posting online.
There are plenty of other resources around and this site has too little useful information to deal with all the bull****.

That's because that is something you usually ask your doctor for advise. Just kidding.
All jokes aside, we were all newbies at one time or another. Some just don't know the answers and they want to become more knowledgeable about firearms. When we used to hire interns where I worked, I would always tell them that there is no such thing as a stupid work related question. If I didn't know the answer, we would both find out the information. But I did expect them to remember what they learned, which may have meant that they had to write what they learned down.
It's about education. They want to learn and we should try and help educate them.We are all Masters of our own Ship. It's the course changes that you make, that affect your life.
I'm not paranoid, I know they're out to get me.

I think for the most part the negative posts stand out more just due to content. After you've been a member for a time you usually choose to ignore them for the most part. I personally post most in OT and can always rely on both positive and negative comments no matter what is posted.
The old customer service saying applies for sure. You'll get 10 people that are more likely to complain then one that will compliment. Applies in many things in life. Here's no exception.NRA Life Member

Well said.Ive seen this time and time again. A new, most likely new to firearms person will post and make incorrect names for items IE, clip, (Mag) pistol, revolver, wrong forum etc.
We all as united pro gun owners need to welcome these new pro-recruits rather than lambaste them. I'm becoming very disappointed in some of the Calgun posters sitting on the edge of their seats hoping for a simple mistake!!!
Any new Calgunner should be politely redirected them as we need every pro California 2nd amendment voter we can get...
Be courteous, be helpful, welcome them with advice, look at the post count at least.

All handguns were "pistols" for centuries before revolvers were invented. Since there was no other type of handgun, handgun and pistol were synonymous.
This is a pistol:

And so is this:

And so is this:

Then Samuel Colt invented a new class of handguns called revolvers. Unlike pistols, revolvers have chambers that are separate from the barrel.

As a marketing tool, Colt at first called his revolvers "revolving pistols" to explain what his product was, because everyone knew what a pistol was but nobody knew what the heck a "revolver" was. But they did call their Deringer pistol a pistol, because that's what it is, a pistol.

As time went on and people became familiar with revolvers the "revolving pistol" nomenclature was dropped and revolvers were called what they are - revolvers.
Notice Colt made a distinction between their revolvers and their "automatic" pistols. If revolvers are pistols, why didn't Colt just call all of their handguns "pistols", or "revolving pistols" and "automatic" pistols?

Some people call magazines "clips", even though they are two different things.
Some people call chimpanzees "monkeys", even though chimpanzees are apes, not monkeys.
Some people call revolvers "pistols", even though revolvers and pistols - while both are types of handguns - are different.
What matters is the ATF makes a distinction between pistols and revolvers. They classify handguns as pistols or revolvers. If revolvers are pistols why are they named separately?
Notice that the ATF defines a pistol as a handgun that has two characteristics:
- a chamber(s) as an integral part(s) of, or permanently aligned with, the bore(s);
- and a short stock designed to be gripped by one hand at an angle to and extending below the line of the bore(s).
and notice that a revolver doesn't meet that definition.

In the bound book I keep for the ATF as required for my FFL 03 under firearm type I list pistols as pistols and revolvers as revolvers.
If people want to call revolvers "pistols", call magazines "clips", call chimpanzees "monkeys", call Caitlyn Jenner a "woman", and call the shoulder thing that goes up a "barrel shroud", they can of course. It doesn't mean they are right.
Revolvers are not pistols
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel

Too much time in OT distorts ones perception of this site.
Plenty of good info here.

I hear what you're saying though. Everyone is a real tough guy when it's in an anonymous forum like this. Some people take great joy in cutting people down and running their mouth, and this leads the new folks to seek advice elsewhere. We should really embrace anyone that supports our cause.Comment

I LOVE THIS BOARD ! But i'll admit it took me two years of lurking before I ever signed up mainly because of how newer people were talked down to. BUT I also found some very good posts in that time that helped me make decisions on firearms as well as learned some things about storage , laws and the Handgun roster. There is another issue here that scares people off as well but it's a human issue or maybe classified as learned behavior? but if you have thick skin you can get by it.Ive seen this time and time again. A new, most likely new to firearms person will post and make incorrect names for items IE, clip, (Mag) pistol, revolver, wrong forum etc.

I met a very cool older member and probably made his day with a nice gift too LMAO. I'm sure it shocked the heck out of him , you know who you are. But overall once you wade through the BS there ARE GOOD people here imho. I've worked with people who come here and are members or just lurk."Common sense is self defense"Comment

And to add, when we do use the search function, and find a thread - we can no longer post on it due to how old it is. Maybe, I want to add or say thanks. But, "Thread is too old" b.s. keeps old searchable threads archivedThe other thing I really hate is the "this has been discussed before. Use the search function." The search function here sucks. Help someone out by answering their question or sending them the link to the other thread.
I could be wrong, but I feel like there is less posting on calguns recently. I've seen this same thing happen before with other hobby forums I've been involved in. I'm sure the dwindling number of guns on the roster doesn't help with this, as it gives us less to talk about. But I also think rude responses drives people away.sigpicComment
