    Fed Premium Ammo Layoffs

Mods: Not sure if this is the correct forum to post this; apologies if not and feel free to move.

I'm not sure what to make of this in terms of outlook for consumer ammo purchasers -- present glut and forecasts below manufacturing capacity? Wariness over potential legislative attacks on ammo sales (Cal, and potentially others)? Prices bottoming out for consumers around now / next quarter? Or just a new CEO "right-sizing" the business from his get-go? No idea and I'll leave others to speculate, but I thought this was worth sharing.

    Federal Premium Announces Layoffs: https://bearingarms.com/tom-k/2017/1...unces-layoffs/

That's an almost 30% reduction in workforce this calendar year.

Disturbing news certainly but the trump slump is very real, gun sales have dropped, Daniel Defense just laid off people as well.

With new California laws there is a lot less money to go toward the industry: banning Ammo sales online and semi auto bans

my question would be did many of these manufacturers hire on more people during the ammo panic to keep up with production and now they're getting back to normal, or, have sales dropped even below pre-panic times

^ This is the best question when it comes to the layoffs.

The industry probably thought (like almost everyone else did) that Shillary would win and a rush to end all rushes would be on. Being not far removed from the Sandy Hook panic spree, it's understandable.

Might be because of the 500 million write down the parent company took this year, which I believe is also the reason for the significant rebate offer on ammo.

You have to admit that CA most likely purchased Metric tons on tons of ammo, this not seen as much in other states IMO.

Now (for us) this will soon come to an abrupt halt for record ammunition sales in Ca, which I'm sure they made quite a swing in production & sales of this commodity for not only possibly Hillary winning, but the new law banning sales of usable amounts (more than 50rd) of munition in CA (mostly--maybe).

We will all be sad come next yr, a garner a new displeasure of our overlords.

Yeah CA continues to SUCK, thank you DouchebagParty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! may a thousand flee's share a bed with you for the rest of your lives !

I think sales are just returning to normal. I mean, Obama was in office for eight years and it's not hyperbole to say he was the greatest gun salesman ever.

Gun/ammo manufacturers should have known record sales wouldn't stay forever.

^^^ yep. Just remember when the ammo/component manufactures could not make the stuff fast enough and everyone had bare shelves and back orders. We have seen ammo and supplies on the shelves for awhile now so production does not need to be at the pace it was. Throw in all the uncertainties with Ca which is a large seller of ammo/supplies and they are over producing and have been for awhile.
The same goes for firearms except that Ca screws that up even more with roster arms

Every industry is cyclic. During increased demands, they struggle to keep up, and then ramp up production, and then overproduce, and so on and so on.

It will turn around eventually, sadly when the next Dem takes the office in the White house.

It looks like they are just trimming the corporate fat. No mention of production people being let go.

The layoffs, taking place on October 6, cost the jobs of 190 hourly employees and 10 salaried staff from the HR, legal, and IT departments.

Vista Outdoor continues its efforts to drive cost-savings initiatives and improved efficiencies. We are managing our employee population to align with demand.

I think you misread the quote. They laid off 190 hourly employees (likely many to do with production), and 10 salaried employees (from HR, legal, and IT). So 5% of the most recent lay-off was HR, legal, and IT. And 95% from elsewhere. There's no way a 1300+ (now 1000+) employee organization had 200 people in HR, legal, and IT.

(all that is somewhat beside the point - let's all speculate wildly about what it may mean for ammo prices to us consumers!)
