best thing to do would be to put upper in a vice and use an armorers wrench

It's easy. Put the upper receiver in an armorers block and put it in a vise. Slip the crush washer over the barrel first. Put some anti seize grease on the threads. Then hand tighten your comp/hider on. Tighten it with you armorers wrench until it is in the position you want it.

if you can take it off, you can put it back on.

and yes, the anti-seize is important if you ever want to take it off down the line without needing the hulk or potentially breaking something.

It really is easy, even using something like surefire with the shims

If you have a bench vise and an adjustable crescent wrench, you can get this block for about $40 and remove/install muzzle devices, handguards, even barrels of pretty much any AR-15 on your own.

Just don't use it for barrel nuts.
I have been getting a lot more barrels in lately with broken index pins from people that tried to tighten a barrel nut to their receiver with the receiver/barrel on a bev block or giessele reaction rod.

I used a 12" long, 3/4" Snap-On combination wrench. I laid my AR in my lap, held it with my left hand and removed the old brakes with my right hand. It's easy.
