Because of the volume of deaths and injuries. The shooter, not among them, but over them so he was not vulnerable to someone with a CCW, but searing down on them without anybody able to do much in defense.

I think you are going to see a slight reversal come out of this one that has people previously adverse to any kind of gun control contemplating some measures of registration or outright "Assault Weapon" bans. At every turn, the media will capitalize on that for clicks and eyeballs, if not a divisive plan to get a Hillary or Kamala in the White house in 2020.

It's a dangerous threat to the 2nd Amendment, and the worse form of sacrificing liberty for a false sense of security. But I think it's going to pull us down a bit.

Excellent point and I completely agree.

Gun control follows a script. They are talking about universal background checks, AW ban and magazine capacity limits.

While UBC is an "incremental" measure, where people don't notice too much and it doesn't bother them too much, a national AW would create a massive disturbance. The problem is that they cannot argue for UBC as a solution to "Vegas situation" with a straight face, while AWB is way too disruptive. Also, people are realizing that banning a weapon type doesn't mean criminal won't have such a weapon, only that there will be an add-on penalty for possession. That's not much of a deterrent when he is going to commit a suicide.

From the political perspective, talking about gun control is only pandering to the far left base. It alienates the center and the right. As such, it's not any good past the Democratic primaries. Worse, if Democrats succeeded in getting beyond the talk with anything seriously disruptive such as AWB, it would guarantee further loses in upcoming elections.

What I expect to see is a few more days talking about it, Bradys trying to tell everyone and their uncle how they have a "sensible solution," then we move on to the next event/crisis. Anything happens in North Korea and Vegas is a forgotten issue.

This story will be off the news cycle in a week. It has little long term value because it doesn't include Trump as a cause/effect. Without a motive, the media has no cause to latch on to other than the old and tired gun control crap that this nut completely followed.

While Ive never watched this guy(Jimmy Kimmel) apparently someone does although I have no idea why .
          Heres Mr Funnyman,
Kimmel gave a monologue in which he condemned gun laws, denounced Republicans who he said should be “praying for God to forgive them” for supporting the right to bear arms and made the case for future gun confiscations – a longtime objective of the left.

"There was never even a peep after it was divulged that Kimmel was receiving his material directly from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, outing him as nothing more than a highly paid, highly visible shill for the Democratic party...

Now Kimmel is making the transition from saving Obamacare to becoming the preeminent national spokesman for the assault on the Second Amendment in the aftermath of the horrific mass shooting that took place in Las Vegas on Sunday night."

I think it's a safe to say network TV is just a wing of the unpopular democrat party.

I read in townhall that this killer had ammonium nitrate in his car. A large bomb would have been even more devastating, a point gun grabbers never address in their zeal to disarm the law abiding and demonize our NRA!
Our hearts and prayers go out to those who are directly effected by this horrible atrocity.
Personally I have not ruled out an ISIS connection although it appears at this time the authorities have not found one.

IIRC these same people had the same reaction after sandy hook.
          IVC good points agreed!

Worse for them, these days people get their news from online sources that cannot be controlled the way TV is controlled. Millenials and newer generations, crucial to gun control brainwashing, are particularly difficult to influence via the traditional TV.

My guess is that this blows over in a week. NBC will run "specials" on shootings, past shootings and whatnot for some days, then fatigue will set in and it will just go away.

get it while you can without the registration / background check

for Califonia this may trigger shortages / price increases

Haven't noticed any panic buying yet. Doubt there will be any at national level like back in 2012-2013.

Expect several states to adopt new bills this year similar to our home-grown Prop 63, requiring background check and licensing to buy ammo, possibly even quantity limits and fees/taxes in states where they can get away with the latter.
I agree with your assessment. States are going to realize they can't control guns, but ammo is a different animal. Pretty soon we'll all be reloading.

Go buy some ammo today before the ammo flys off the shelves.

They might go back to limiting your purchase to only two boxes of handgun ammo, you never know.

just a year or two ago they still had limits at places like Sportsman's Warehouse and Walmart.

That's what I am thinking, too. I am thinking there will also be a rash of guns being lost in boating accidents.
