Any long gun purchased after 2014 is already listed in AFS with make and model. The state already has a database suggesting you have those.

Registration of a pre-2014 long gun should have some serious thought applied first.

I can easily see this turning into a huge clusterphuq after July 1 2018 when registration closes and 90% of people that are affected by these stupid laws have no idea that they are now felons just waiting to be discovered. I recently went through the registration process and know for a fact that there is no way 90% of people out there are going to do it or even be able to do it. It is extremely onerous to the average person.

Im a desk jockey, analyze laws and regulations all day at my job and fairly tech savvy so it was easy for me but if you are not detail oriented and dont have a computer, camera, and internet, you are screwed. Im going to help out my blue collar friends because there is no way they are going to be able to do it on their own.

I dont see anybody over the age of 40 or who doesnt closely follow gun laws as being able to comply. Theres going to be a lot of sitting ducks out there.

Hell, I bet half of the people that these laws will effect probably voted for them not even knowing that they were voting for something that is turning them into a felon over night.

I don't want to drag this too far off the rails, either - but I will say thanks for that information. I was at an event recently, where the "word" was that once you register it's not possible to de-register. That got me really worried.

Yes a lot of people dont know that it is possible to deregister. I dont know how realistic it is to do so.

Hunterb, that is a great offer. I will take your advice and see how this process progresses next year. I'm in Tustin , OC. I might just send you a PM next year, and if the offer is still good, I will take you up on it. I'm just not a computer guy!
