              I remember going to Kmart in the early 1980s, on waterman and baseline in San Bernardino. Bought the floor model Remington 12 gauge autoloader foe $150 bucks. No box, just carried it right out the front door.

                I remember Big 5 use to have racks right on the sales floor of surplus rifles. They always had German G-98's for cheap. When I was a kid I would scoff at them because I couldn't understand why someone would want the gun the Nazi's used.
