Yes, from my memory, the Ruger rotary magazine can stay in place without the stock being in place.

And function absolutely fine, again going from my past memory, not having a 10/22 rifle in front of me at the second.

But from the looks of the photograph it doesn't even look like she had a magazine to show.

Yeah without the bottom metal it can't lock in place. I was thinking the same. But the rub is you could fire it single shot. And if your caught out in the field with this and no stock in sight along with contraband well we all know what's gonna happen next. Play stupid games.........

Before anyone starts worrying about cleaning and changing stocks you gotta just think of the big picture on this one. No matter how stupid it may seem.

I guess that would be the same if you take the stock off of your AR to change it out? I think charges on this has to do with the context of the situation. Like someone said, pile them on and see what sticks.
Taking the stock off an AR doesn't change overall length enough to notice

can still be fired single shot

With the current state of things(letting felons go on misdemeanor charges), if they had charged her with three misdemeanors instead of one felony and two misdemeanors, she probably would serve no jail time. So, they charged her with a felony for the firearm.

The SBR laws make no exceptions for cleaning and/or changing stocks. If she's convicted on the SBR charge, most of us have something to potentially worry about.

That being said, it's unlikely to result in anything but being dropped.

And FWIW, 10/22's do not have "bottom metal". Magazine will stay put with no stock.

If you own a 10/22 you can't also own a screwdriver or you have "intent to manufacture" I guess.

The magazines are retained by the trigger assy and the receiver. It will function just fine like that.

Should be fine, it's just a 22lr and it's pretty big. Barrel will get hot pretty soon though.

would that have been an SBR?

It's more of a theoretical question.
When you remove the barrel on the ruger takedown the entire barrel comes out leaving no chamber to even feed a round into.

Not an SBR, you can buy them like that, the are called barreled actions.

How can that be an sbr with no stock and when it can't be fired from the shoulder?
