AK build question (should be really easy)

The rail (I think it is the ejector rail) on the flat I bent and have used sticks out too far and pushes the bolt to the side which effects it's smooth action and doesn't allow the bolt to match up to the chamber flush. Here are a couple of pictures which show the problem:

Someone told me to do this:

For 7.62x39 you grind the tip of the ejector down to go in the
slot in the bolt. Take it in small steps, check it, then file a
little more until it just clears through the slot.

which sounds correct, but I am not sure what the ejector is. I assume it is the little hook part coming off of the one rail but would like to be sure. I would greatly appreciate it if someone would post a quick picture with some basic photoshopping which pointed out the correct thing to grind down in such a way that a braindead moron could not get it wrong

    Thanks,
    BDD

when the bolt is in the carrier, and you slid the assembly back then forward, does the bolt head get stuck or do you feel friction where the ejector sticks out. The ejector is the piece that looks like the hook. What receiver did you use? Is this receiver a home made unit or NDS-3.

Yes, but also after filing that thing down I'd take a polishing bit to it and smooth the crap out of it. you don't want a rough edge scraping against your bolt.

The friction seems to just be being caused by the ejector. I used a Tapco flat.

So I want to grind down the ejector (marked with a yellow arrow) roughly as indicated by the green line? I will just take a tiny bit off, check, take off a bit more, etc. until it is right.

Al that sounds correct ? I hope.

Why does your flat look squished?

I dont think its the ejector. I think you bent the flat too much. and need to open it up a little

yeah the receiver seems squished in.
Did you use a jig when bending it?
Also, have your heat treated it after bending it? those tapco flats can be very soft

PUT YOUR CENTER SUPPORT PIN IN BEFORE YOU DO ANY MORE GRINDING!

Yeah it is a little squished but that isn't effecting the bolt. Since it is my first build I am not going to worry about it now, after I build at least one more (I have another kit on the way) I will think about taking it down and starting over with a better receiver.

I read that when you weld the rails on it heat treats it in the right spots. I haven't tempered anything since high school shop so if I need to do more, please let me know, I have a tank of mapp gas I haven't had the pleasure of using in a while.

                  Thanks for the input,

I think it is. Anyhow, put your center support pin in BEFORE you do any minor fitting.

You will need to temper your extractor tab, and the operating holes.

+1 on that advice. Put the support pin in before you do ANY filing, and place the bolt in the carrier when testing the fit. Good luck on your build - and don't forget to harden the ejector and FCG holes!

To heat treat it I just heat it up with a torch until it starts changing color (to purplish) and then let it slowly cool right?

                        Thanks,

I've never heat-treated any parts, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night! Seriously, do a search at the site above and you should find the info you're looking for.
