That's what I stated in my earlier post. The pendulum has swung too far left. We've come very far in equality and opportunity for all. Obviously more can always be done...

But we're at the point where things are getting out of hand and need to be balanced. Because the end game is going to be 10,000 different groups hating one another because someone used english words from the oxford dictionary and not the XYZSERDR model 2025.

Since I can't find anyone who has given you a straight answer....

Both. You are probably confused because today we have a horrible mis-mash of political thinking distilled into two groups. These I would loosely call Modern American Liberalism (vote democrat) and Modern American Conservatism (vote republican). They both suffer from similar issue regarding pure political classifications. For example, Modern American Liberalism contains elements from left wing, liberal, socialist and progressive thoughts, but does not entirely conform to any of the above.

Progressivism originally is simply the thought that as mankind progresses (i.e. learns more), then we should apply our newfound know how to make similar progress on issues fundamental to humanity. Things like if we learn to grow more food, then we should be able to lessen hunger issues. The basic thought really doesn't have to conform to a political ideology. That said, it does tend to fit significantly better with the traditional liberal permissiveness, the left wings desire for change and socialisms desire for centralized control.

An examples of conservative progressivism would be the Boy Scouts.

An example of bi-partisan progressivism from ~the time of the civil war was public schooling.
