Transaction Issue - Need Help

I see issues on both the buyer's and seller's side:

As a buyer:

1. You knew the firing pin had been broken at some point, but didn't seem to know it was still broken. Ask any questions about it?
2. Same thing with physical inspection at time of PPT, you didn't notice the cylinder drag or issues?
3. You left positive feedback.
4. You had the gun for months (based on my understanding)...how is the seller to know you didn't do something to the gun (unless he knew he was unloading a problem gun)?
5. PPT is usually "as is" unless otherwise stated.

As a seller:

1. Sounds like the firing pin status was a bit vague at time of sale
2. For other issues, also sounds like buyer had to find them out vs. being told
3. Maybe you knew about them, maybe you didn't (doubtful as it's your gun and you're selling it for some reason)
4. Why didn't you have it repaired before selling (or was price factored into the sale for being less than fully functional - didn't see that mentioned)?

At the end of the day, things are grey on both sides, enough to say (especially since buyer knew about broken firing pin at some time of previous ownership) that it's amazing to see how buyers think a PPT comes with some type of money back guarantee....especially months later when who knows what may have happened to the gun during that time.

I can see pros and cons on both sides, so this one will chalk up to expensive learning lesson. Kind of too bad so sad unfortunately. The downside of buying used and possibly someone else's problem(s).

OP, how much did you pay?

Contact the seller to see if he will offer a full or partial refund.
You should have educated yourself before purchasing and you should have done a proper inspection. Chances are, the seller knew he was selling you junk.

If the seller doesn't step up.
Out the seller.
Leave negative feedback.
Learn your lesson.

Hi All,

First I want to thank everyone that took time to respond. At 47 yo, I knew I was SOL as soon as I heard back from Rossi. I did look the gun over, but obviously not good enough. The shop I was doing the transfer at was super busy, the shop guy was rushing everyone in there that day and the seller was late. Plus I was doing two transfers that day and had already started the first one, so we were trying to save the additional fee from DOJ. He walked in, handed me the box, I opened it and handed it to the shop guy.

When he told me about the firing pin, he said it had happened a couple times but it was fixed and handed me two extra pins in case it happened again. As far as it being in my possession for so long, I am an avid collector and some guns go straight into the safe and never get fired. I bought this gun for $200 and planned on giving it to my 21 year old daughter to carry. That is the only reason it made it to the range in the time frame that it did. Rossi has had possession of it for a solid two months and I have since broken free from the restraints of Kommiefornia and moved to Idaho (Yayyyyyyyyyyyy).

I do however like the option of turning it into a paper weight for my desk. That is, if Rossi even sends it back to me. I have to admit, when they were telling me that the gun was inoperable, I kind of drifted off into a pissed off space for a moment before I came back to reality. The more I thought about it, the more I think they will just keep it and send me the letter saying they destroyed it.

I again thank everyone for their input and I have learned another costly, but valuable lesson in life. I will not be so quick to leave positive feedback just because a guy showed up with the gun pictured and did not stand me up at the shop. I will also now be the guy that function tests every aspect before I hand over the bread.

This is where tenure on the forum and iTrader ratings come into play. I see you've been here for at least six years and you have a perfect iTrader rating. If you were selling me a gun I'd give it a quick once-over and take your word for everything you had to say.

The guy you bought from, well.... not so much.

All this adds up to someone I'm thinking can probably afford to buy his daughter a new gun to be used as her carry firearm. Why enter a transaction with known issues considering who it's for and why?

Pretty much my thoughts. Rossi firearms aren't known to be that great. You can get a used Ruger or S&W for not a lot more and they are light years better revolvers to bet your daughters life on.

Hey All, just a final update. I received the firearm back today from Rossi, along with a letter that stated, "if I wanted to replace the firearm with another that they would give me a discount." I called them up and they are replacing it at a discounted price. They gave me the option to pick any firearm out of their catalog, which I chose to go with the same model being it is for my daughter. With a retail price of $333, they gave me a brand new one for $203.

I have never owned a Rossi firearm, mostly because I collect things that will appreciate over time. I have to say, their customer service has been pretty stellar. They have turned a crappy situation into an only some-what crappy situation, lol. Let's not forget the fact that they sent me back a pretty cool paper weight for my desk!
