    Barrel life

I was doing some research on calibers and came across .22 nosler.... Came across a website stating the life of an average barrel is 2000 RDS for most barrels. I feel this is extremely misleading. I was under the impression most people will never outshoot their barrel unless they have full auto and train daily.

Why would a company claim this?

    I think you're missing a 0. Probably closer to 20,000 rounds.

If the linked pic wasn't enough, here is the direct link to their website:

That's what they say about a life of a 6.5 Creedmoore barrel. Some say 2500. I always wondered how true this is.

Check out threads in the long range shooting forum. Some calibers get lower life than that. It is a combination of velocity and bore size which causes "Hot" calibers that will throat erode faster than others. .243, .22-250, .220 Swift and 6.5 saum are others.

2000 rounds is for peak performance. A lot of average shooters wouldn't notice a difference. The gun will still shoot reasonably well for thousands of rounds past 2000.

300 win mag barrel life is 1200-1500, and that's if you take care of it!

Why worry about barrel life by the time you wear it out IF you wear it out you'll be wanting something new anyway.

Maybe in a really soft, SS bbl for competition. But the lay-down for competition is quite a bit more restrictive than just informal use. I have a .26 Nosler that is hard on a Rock Creek cut-rifled bbl - but I expect to get 5-8K out of it.

Chromium steel? Chrome lined? Nitrided? Cryoed? All of those are different with different lifespans.

Barrels are easy. When they stop shooting as well as you want replace them.

The one I am most concerned about is the barrels on my 50BMG rifles and that is only because I suspect they will be expensive.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Shoot out the factory and replace with a Krieger and then your good for 6k.

                              From their wed site

Barrel Life with all barrels, it really depends on how they are treated but one should see approximately 2,000 rounds as used in competition and as many as 4,000 rounds if used as a plinking rifle.
Lots of variables involved in barrel life.

As to the underlined. It's not saying a barrel is "shot out" after 2,000 rnds. But it is in real world not likely that a barrel over that arbitrary number can still perform to the expected level of competitive shooting.

High pressure, high velocity, larger capacity, "OVERBORE" calibers are more notorious as "barrel burners".
