If the Original Post was so darn uninteresting why did you initially & click and read it?

I see, someone forced you. Got it. Must have been those same guys who forced me to drink too many beers and eat all those double cheese burgers. Maybe if California had a 10 waiting period on getting in the line at the Dairy Queen they could have protected me against my un-disciplined self.

That's super inaccurate, as stated above that has to be NFA only because most states don't have registration.

My understanding was there are more privately held firearms than people in the United States. I would say 350-400 million guns in the United States.

Didn't make it very far into that site, too slow and painful to go one at a time. Just CBS's way to load up every page with ads. Yech.

Just show me a list so I can go about my way.

I sort of appreciate those who advertise on CBS! I try to not buy from anyone who keeps them in business.

Suppose you could determine with a high degree of probability, that New York was the most armed state - say, an average of 10 guns per resident.

Do you suppose that information would change the actions of the government of New York? Would you plan to move there on the gun-ownership item alone?

Then, look at the data-collection for each of these studies. The one cited by CBS (from 2015) uses a telephone survey to get rates. Gun owners, seeing the treatment given to gun owners in the last 20 years, are going to be reluctant to reveal gun ownership to an anonymous telephone caller. Similarly, 'progressive' gun owners are also likely to deny ownership - can't have the social group think one is one of the bitter clingers...

I believe the ATF data suggested is the NICS counts, which is not very useful either. Some states use it for other things than gun purchases - KY runs NICS on every one of its CCW holders every month. And NICS checks are not run on a lot of person-to-person sales, which in many states are legal without an FFL.

Nobody knows for sure how many guns there are in the US as a whole; certainly nobody knows a breakout by state.
so pretty much it is impossible to know what state has the most guns in private ownership?

i would feel that this info would be neat to know.

Given the OP posted clearly that the story was for entertainment purposes only, I was glad to see Oregon's open carry law accurately represented by a picture of a guy carrying a gun openly in Roseburg and, considering how rare protests are in Roseburg, I'd hazard a guess it was after the UCC shootings back in Oct 2015 when they were calling for more gun control in OR and Hanlin, sheriff of the county where it occurred, was having none of it and was quite vocal about that. I live in that county and know that my neighbors are armed and practice regularly, usually in their yards, and NFA items, apparently some 45 thousand of them, exist somewhere in the state, not counting constructed and unregistered NFA items. Crime in our county is obscenely low. I attribute it to people being a peaceful, respectful and friendly sort

That story(and others similar to it) pops up all the time

Ho hum. I read it and found it so shallowly researched that I quickly lost interest. Perfect example of fake news.
