Not trying to pick on your friend, just a general observation on what most of these threads have in common:

      1. Bought (X)
      2. Had problems with (X)
      3. Did research and found (X) has a bad rep and a lot of problems

So then permaybehaps do #3 first?
I meant, it is my opinion that...

ya man i agree its a shame really. I wish i could have helped him out before he pulled the trigger so to speak. Honestly, I have also learned a lot from his experience.

I eventually found the type of rail last night. No dimensions tho for the thread on the barrel nut. Everywhere i have looked its discontinued as well -except ebay. haha

It looking like the rail/nut came from trinity force.

I suspect it could have even been a copy perhaps?

There is even one set screw that was cross threaded to hold the rail straight right from the gun store/factory apparently. One set screw and a retainer ring of sorts is all that holds it on there.

Pretty not cool, if you cant properly turn a set screw into place its a wonder there is even a final product.

Ya he was jumping in feet first for sure. I like to go name brands and just pay the premiums.

Not gonna say what i got to the public but, your gonna have to take my word for it.

Still trying to get a hold of the company. We'll see.

And ya hes just really not interested at this point so i'm taking it upon myself to do what needs to be done.

I get ye, keep it short and concise. (i had to google brevity) haha. I just wanted to give some background cause i'm new..

Idk, its been a while- almost a year. He lives almost 2 hrs out of the way. Some of my friends are the type that don't even leave the freaking county, not very motivated. lack people skills. haha

I'm just doing it because i have built 7 ar platforms for myself and have more experience than anyone in my circle.

If it was mine i would have said so, i guess it don't really matter the problem would still remain.

I got the upper all disassembled hoping to figure the thread type would just be the cheapest alternative. If i cant make that work then new upper it is.

I tried to email Randall, you guys talk highly of him. He says there are multiple 'standard' lugs, got back to me within hours.

He wanted to know the rifle brand. He'll probably laugh.

                    I measured the lug

~ 1/8 in gap between crests

my guess is like 1 7/16'' x 8 threads per inch.

id have to dig for a micrometer and have no thread gauges.

                    No results on google

Maybe we could start up a service where guys could check on women they might want to date....

Or maybe not....it would however save some folks a lot of time and money, but hormones usually make people irrational. Not me, I only spent $1.5 million on divorces...but zero dollars on bad uppers.

I think its usually hard to regret any gun purchase really. I'm sure most us us have experienced something similar to this.

I bought cheap uppers before for parts, and just to have an extra, didn't regret it.

Recently bought a ruger mini that was a lemon not much anyone could do to prevent that tho.. broke after less then 40 rounds. trigger assembly failed.

Sent it back and got a scout in .308 seemed like a good trade. Idk how i feel about it..

bought a rem 700 that i honestly regretted after the fact, still got it. could be worse.

Sometimes it is just time to pull the plug , your trying to make things fit onto a piece of junk .
I can bolt all kinds of neat stuff on a crappy car , does it make it a Ferrari ?

Scrap the project , try to get your buddy his money back and then start over but this time with the added benefit of experience . Your buddy will be much happier in the end .

It would seem to me, that the OP's friend bought a over-priced rifle without any previous research.
Lesson learned....do homework before spending money.
Doing this prevents these kind of issues.

And it seems that the swat firearms website is also gone.

Have friend buy new lower receiver, and an upper receiver.
                              Then assemble the new components.
Your gonna be out $125-150....cheap but very important lesson.
