Yup %90 percent of the time it's full rubber replicas.
The. There are the non gun replicas. Guns that are made to look real and discharge an electronic "flash" when the trigger is pulled. You might have noticed in some movies when in rapid fire, there might have a flash or two missing. That's what those normally are.
Then there are the guns that are real and modified to only shoot blank rounds. Which are converted real guns.Originally posted by Jimi JahI punch paper only because it is illegal to punch people.Originally posted by elpaisa1I think flatulence is a more serious crime. I think it should be a misdemeanor with a 1000 dollar fine or 6 months of jail. It should be a felony if done near an open flame.

Tell this to Brandon Lee. Maybe his "accident" caused changes in the industry regarding prop guns.Yup %90 percent of the time it's full rubber replicas.

I thought this thread was going to be about Hollywood's use of the unlimited magazines. And then there's the inappropriate sounds they add, spent shells hitting the ground after firing a revolver.Comment

I've actually handled the rubber Beretta clones. They look so real but they do not have any mechanical functionality such as racking slide or cocking hammer.
I have no doubts they don't care about costs. They probably buy a bunch of whatever they need such as Pythons for Walking Dead, and convert them to BFDs.
In any case, if a director wants the actor to drop a real gun, they're going to drop a real gun.
Also, there's a GREAT podcast on 99 Percent Invisible 99pi.org about foleys. That we are so accustomed to fake sounds especially with wildlife documentaries that they have to fake most of the soundtrack because the real sounds, sound fake.Comment

Even when they do the original guns they are mostly from prop house companies and not individually owned. If it was it would need to be insured for cinema or something similar.I've been on several sets.

Most recent I've been working on shows with m4's, baretta's 1911's Barrett 50bmg ak's and rpg's. That was sick to see a trailer essplodeOriginally posted by Jimi JahI punch paper only because it is illegal to punch people.Originally posted by elpaisa1I think flatulence is a more serious crime. What kills me are actors that portray tough gun guys in movies railing against 2A and gun ownership.Comment

The original pre ban Golden State Arms (manhatten beach) AKs were prop guns. They auction at high prices in gunbroker now.
The prop gun that killed Brandon Lee mistakenly didn't have a dummy round.

Like others have mentioned, highly unlikely that that is the actual gun getting dropped. It's bad enough that the movie industry destroys cars, however, I cringe every time I hear "drop your weapon" and I hear that metal clink and clank as it hits the pavement. Just as painful when a nice revolver gets kicked away.
Season 3 of Bloodline, alligator scene.
I can't be the only one that this pains.
Also, Hollyweed has done much worse when it comes to guns...

They gave him that one (there were 3). It's too bad they had it restored and reblued before they gave it to him. It's in the NRA Museum.
