Depends on where you are in the area. There's Richmond (I've never been but have heard good things about it and some bad), Livermore (one of my favorites, but things have turned worse lately with the new range rules), San Leandro (never shot there, but smelly at times due to the sanitation dept or something like that nearby), USI, which is effectively shut down for at least another year or two.

Then, there's MacArthur Blvd in Oakland. Always free with moving targets, but you might get pinched unless you shoot at night...I'm joking (seriously, do not do this!!!).

Our choices are dwindling. Hope you can find a place to enjoy some shooting.

I used to shoot the high power rifle match on the 200 yard range...miss it, even the rat poop in the target pits.

Wow. How can politicians just do that? WTF is wrong with these people?

I would go protest at the next city council meeting, and make sure you are loud and say "sir" and "ma'am" to everyone. If they know gunowners are more polite and well mannered than they are, they have no moral ground to stand on.

Los Altos rod and gun club.
              Search for the web site.

Indoor range in a south San Francisco also.
Maybe coyote point range in the Peninsula.

A bit too late, this was all done last year. The last meeting was attended by a ton of polite and well mannered people on behalf of Chabot, but the handwriting was already on the wall. The liberal board members (in particular one) were all on a mission to close down the evil gun club, to hell with everyone else. All of the well-reasoned facts and evidence didn't sway them one bit.

There is no such thing as moral ground with leftists. They had the power in their hands and took full advantage of it.

The gun community is full of people who expect the "other guys" to be fighting the good fight. They just want to shoot their guns as if they were golfers just golfing.. not recognizing that unlike other "hobbies", firearms / shooting are under a massive and maybe final assault from those opposed to the 2nd Amendment. All that apathy, an apathy especially seen in the Asian community, is killing the 2nd amendment in California. By the time the "selfish" apathetic gun owners notice whats going on and are "outraged" its too late to do anything.

As long as less than 10% of California's gun owners "bundle" their influence behind the NRA / CRPA, the battle is lost and its only a matter of time. Its funny how the people most upset have done little or NOTHING to fight for the 2nd amendment, are not members of the NRA / CRPA and have given nothing to pro 2nd Amendment causes and politicians.. yet find the money for new guns and ammunition whenever needed.

Spending money on more guns and ammo while not fighting for / financially supporting the right to own and use them is putting the proverbial cart before the horse. I wonder how many people who enjoyed the Chabot Shooting range were members of the NRA / CRPA? How many voted consistently pro gun in last fifteen years? And as noted, got involved in local politics to defend the range? Most just wanted to go to the range (golf course), get their guns (clubs) out, pay at the range office (pro shop) and go shoot (play golf) and then go home and not thing about anything beyond the experience at the moment. If the majority of gun owners think this is "just a hobby" with no further responsibility or duty we all will not be shooting much longer...

Oh yeah... more than 7 million gun owners in the state...less than 7 million pro gun republican voters in EVERY election....

                    Agree 100%.

This is, IMO, just another example of the gun owners failing ourselves. If every gun owner here on CGN voted like they say they do things like Prop 57 and Prop 63 would have been soundly defeated. The roar here on CGN prior t0 the November election was deafening on those two props. Instead we were soundly defeated.

My take on it from the folks here at CGN is this...folks are either lying about how they vote or they don't even bother to cast a vote. Either way is pathetic and the results hurt every single one of us. Sad really.

Livermore range isn't worth it, unless you like shooting pistols while sitting.

When registered voter turnout in my county is only 30% +/- every major election and even less for local only stuff, it's pretty obvious to me that most can't be bothered to vote. We reap what we sow.
