Obscure and defunct shooting ranges

A thread on the shooting range that is on the Chevron refinery lands in Richmond got me thinking about old shooting ranges that either few people know about, or are gone but their bones are still showing.

Here are the ones that come to mind for me.

Chevron Rod & Gun Club (Richmond)
Note that I'm not positive that this is the actual range, but it sure looks like it from the photos. Someone said it is now inactive, but I don't know for sure.






East Bay Parks Police Range (Coyote Hills/Newark)
I believe this range has been defunct for years






Fort Cronkhite rifle range (Marin Headlands/Sausalito)
Definitely defunct. Probably since the 1960s.

Mare Island comes to mind,.and a little range that was near Mission Blvd,Niles Canyon area of Union City.

The san diego police range on Federal BLVD, surrounded by condos and freeways with a gun range right in the middle.

Hutton Rifle ranch Topanga Ca. Golden Valley Skeet and trap Whiteman airport there now. Aqua Sierra Sportsmans club owned by Roy Rogers Chatsworth, Ca. Centinela Park pistol Range. Wes Thompsons Sand canyon, Ca. Litton Gun Club simi Valley Madera Road. Watson on alameda long beach.

Stockton Police Range (Stockton, CA)
Still in use. This range has a special place in my heart because my Dad was an SPD Reserve Officer, and had keys to the range. The best memories of my childhood are either on the baseball field or this range.

Looks too effing clean for not being used.

Silverado Cnyn Rod and Gun Club

Dont recall name but North End of Jeffries Rd in Tustin, in the OC.

SouthGate Gun Club, at west end of Stewart and Grey Rd

Long Beach Police Pistol Range...........now open to LB cops only

Standard Oil Refinery Gun Club.......El Segundo....source at refinery says it is now only used by El Segundo PD.

JR's Indoor Pistol Range....Long Beach...west side of Paramount Blvd just No. of 91 fwy.

Bell Pistol Range....indoor....basement of old Bell Theater. Gage Ave, Bell.

Those are the ones now gone within 20 miles of me.

I spent half my youth at the Bell Theater (Alcazar) and the other half at the Allen Theater on Tweedy.
