    Also be aware that even if you don't get your CHL, the NICS takes a whopping 2 minutes. Last time I purchased a gun in Texas I was in and out(with gun in hand) in less than 5 minutes with background check.

    All I needed to do was fill out the Federal Form and show my DL.

      A suggestion - you might want to document what you own (firearms, magazines, and who knows what else) and the date you leave California.

      If, hypothetically, there is some future ban of things you own now, and there is a grandfather clause that allows previously California-owned items to come back, this step might be useful if you ever move back.

      I know, it is all very doubtful, but it couldn't hurt. Heck, you might want to do it anyway for insurance purposes.

      P.S. - For example, I'm pretty sure the California magazine ban has an exemption for previously owned magazines to come back.
