    Range worries

After shooting at an outdoor range today I was speaking with some of the staff about how they will enforce new 2018 gun laws. These are some of the questions I asked.

-Will they inspect all "assault weapons" at check in?
-Will you need to bring your registration paperwork?
-Will they have a list of non compliant parts?
-Will ranges have a database of registered weapons?
-Will law enforcement be doing random compliance inspections?
-If your range is on private property can law enforcement do anything?
-Can the range determine weather a rifle is featureless and acceptable to shoot?
-If someone brings an illegal "assault weapon" does it need to be removed from the property? Would you contact law enforcement?
-If someone purchases ammo at the range and doesn't shoot it all can they take it with them?
-If someone sneaks in an illegal firearm is the shooter liable or the range?

They had just as many questions as I did and aren't sure how the situation will be dealt with.

    What do you think?

Hopefully it's beyond control and will fall apart in Gavin Newsom's lap.

Since nobody knows the answers yet, all you managed to do is give the range staff a lot of false concerns. So next year when I find range employees playing DOJ agent I will come back to this thread and blame you.

Why would it be the responsibility of a range to ensure your firearms are in compliance with CA law? All they need to do is post a sign that states all firearms must be CA compliant and that's it. If you pull out an AR with evil features, that should imply that you have done what is required to own it. If you bring something to a range that is determined by local LE/DOJ to be an issue, that is a problem between you and the state and should not concern the shooting range. If you are required to take a binder with you to the range every time and show paperwork on each firearm, most would stop going to the range. JMHO

My take on it would be...

-Will they inspect all "assault weapons" at check in?... NO
-Will you need to bring your registration paperwork?...NO
-Will they have a list of non compliant parts?... There is no such thing as non-compliant parts as the rifle could be registered and the evil parts are now compliant
-Will ranges have a database of registered weapons?...NO
-Will law enforcement be doing random compliance inspections?...Doubtful, they will just wait for you to make a mistake and deal with you then.
-If your range is on private property can law enforcement do anything?...YES
-Can the range determine weather a rifle is featureless and acceptable to shoot?...Not sure what you mean by "acceptable"
-If someone brings an illegal "assault weapon" does it need to be removed from the property? Would you contact law enforcement?...How do you know it's illegal and if the range called LE, that would be the last day they ever had business once the word got out they are reporting people.
-If someone purchases ammo at the range and doesn't shoot it all can they take it with them?... Why not, I could purchase a 1000 rounds at a local range and not shoot any of it an take it home. Nothing in the new regs about purchasing ammo at a local range and not shooting it.
-If someone sneaks in an illegal firearm is the shooter liable or the range?...Shooter is responsible for conforming to CA law.

As noted, why would you expect range staff to enforce the law???

Safety, safety, safety....... that would be MY primary concern.......
I don't have any idea how many years you've been been aware of gun laws, gun shops and their knowledge of same, and even the average LEO knowledge of gun laws - but I've seen wide variance in these situations, even when the laws weren't changing at the time.
There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

That's what they pretty much said. Its not up to them to enforce the law. They were cool people.

Ranges do not enforce laws. They may and likely will have staff that might "dime you out" to LEO if they suspect yu are not legal and causing issues.

How can they answer that when no one knows how the "system" is going to work, since there is not one.

Very unlikely, huge invasion of privacy and the risk that some jackwad could look up a shooters residence etc. at will is creepy

LEOs often cannot tell if a rifle is featureless and yu expect range staff to? You went from strange to ridiculous pretty quick

Exactly how would they determine if it was illegal? And if they called the cops on a compliant rifle what will they do whan the customer sues them into the dirt?

I believe this is addressed in the law itself, but unsure. I suspect that you will be able to take the ammo you OWN with you.

Spend time at the range. Spend time at several ranges. Attend some events that support 2A. Join CRPA and the NRA if you don't already belong. Read all the threads you can in the legal section. That'll be a small start.....

And I gave you one. But I'll say it another way.

Range Staff are not law enforcement, They work at Ranges. They do not make or enforce the law.

Your questions suggest you think they are / should be and some of them might take you seriously and think they are / should be.

Does your Auto mechanic pull over speeders? Does the Minister need to check the church parking lot and verify all cars are properly registered? If I don't have my pink slip should he kick me out of church? Do your Grocery Clerks verify your car has no non compliant smog parts?

Does your cousin know what LEO's are going to do next year? LEO's don't even know yet why would range staff?

How about we wait until the Reg's are written and leave the poor range staff alone to do their jobs.

Thank the Lord for private ranges. We close and lock the gate behind us, and everyone minds their own business.
No staff, no "checking in", no RM's up your cazoo, and we have an open season with no bag limit on drones and any other recording devices.
