i think that in california your best bet would be not to use a gun. but if you had to use a gun(life or death situtation), it would be wise to shoot at the target with the intention of stopping the threat.

This^^ never fire a warning shot. You shoot until the threat is neutralized. This may or may not kill the introoder ( what ever that is )
Once they are down the shooting better stop. We live in CA after all.

Too much bad advice.

Shoot ONLY to "stop a threat." If the attacker dies, oh well. No warning shots - nothing says "I wasn't in fear for my life" like a warning shot. Stop shooting when the threat stops. No sooner and, more importantly, no later.

Good idea to shoot an introooder in your home carrying your LED TV and he's facing you? If the bullet hits the TV first it's evidence intruder had both hands on TV and not on weapon. You can still claim he charge with the TV as the weapon. If intruder survives that's one witness claiming he was trying to get out and not a threat. I think it's cheaper to replace the TV or other valuable materials than go bankrupt trying to prove your innocence.

If you shoot an intruder shoot to kill. Not sure about CA but in NJ you have a duty to retreat from your home. However if you meet intruder downstairs and your family is upstairs you have no safe escape without putting them in danger. If alone and and you can run out the backdoor, in NJ you are expected to flee your home. I can't wait for the day I move to Free America.

ehem, excuse my French please, but that is one seriously "F"ed up law. Makes you wonder about the idiots who came up with such wisdom.

Must be because of some city worker's union contract. Easier to pick up dead bodies out side the house and closer to the truck. .
