    Nevada Oll "camping Trip!"

This all pertains to the following thread!

Well the time is rapidly approaching for the 1st Unofficial annual N.O.L.L.C.T.! Gee, that makes it almost sound official! Ive had a quite a few ask me about it and make inquiries. Some can make it for a few days, and some arent able to make it at all. To all of those that asked to go, but now couldnt because of work/family/prior engagements, I will add your name to the email list for the next one!

    Heres the deal. . . .

1- The "camping trip" will be held the weekend of Sept 15th thru the 17th, approximately 35 miles from Lovelock Nevada. Lovelock does have a couple of hotels, for those of you who do not wish to "rough it" so to speak, and they usually have quite a few open rooms. I would call in advance to make sure, but its kind of the standard out there. There isnt really any anthing out there to attract business, so your chances of getting a room are anywhere from pretty good to a sure bet.

2- The "donation" that I came up with from the cost of targets and food and from all the feedback I got was $50.00 per person. I will supply saturdays evening meal, which will be chicken and Steak and all "fixings" that go with it. You supply your own meals other than Saturday nights meal. All targets, target hangers, trash bags, Spoons, forks, napkins, toilet paper, basic necessities will be handled my ME. Yours Truly.

3- YOU are responsible for your own gear, tents, sleeping bags, pillows, P-j's, ammo, "toys", OLL's, etc etc. I will not be furnishing any of this, it is entirely up to you to bring these items! There will be a few folks out there bringing their own NEVADA LEGAL firearms, some full autos, some silenced, etc etc. And they have graciously allowed us use of them, as long as their personal equipment is RESPECTED. In other words, treat their gear like you would treat your own. One of the guys is disabled and cant really afford to shoot. but hes coming out to have some fun. If you so chose to check out his stuff, and possibly shoot it, common courtesy would say possibly make a donation towards helping him along. We've all been in a tight spot from time to time, So use your heads on this.

4- All common sense safety rules will be in affect. Zero Tolerance for STUPIDITY! We will first have a safety meeting, we will discuss fields of fire, downrange areas, and common sense safety rules. This will happen first and foremost. Its a long drive to the hospital folks, and those coyotes out there love the smell of blood! Ive got a few people who have volunteered to help RSO with me. They all have got qualifications, so they hopefully wont shoot themselves in the foot! (humor everyone, this is supposed to be a fun weekend!)

5- For those of you who want to purchase ammo, mres, tents, magazine repair kits, things of such nature, There will be a GUNSHOW at BOOMTOWN this same weekend! So this could very well be a good chance to stock up on things you may need for the trip as Boomtown is on the way to the "campgrounds" The hours of the show are. . .FRIDAY 12-8, Saturday 9-7, Sunday 9-4 Great place to stock up on stuff for the weekend!

6- Now for the painful part. . . THE MONEY! Ive tried to work out a way that is best for everyone, so ive narrowed it down to 3 options..
option 1- paypal will be $51.30. . . it can be sent to Bill@Stormfeather.com
option 2- check/money order will be $50.00. . . Pm me, and I will send you the address that it can be sent to!
option 3- Cash, if you wait till the last day, then Im going to ask that you add a extra $10.00 to the "donation." Since I will be using money out of my own pocket in the meantime, I would prefer that we not use option 3, makes book-keeping a helluva lot easier.

7- This trip is in no way limited to OLL's, if all you have is a lever action .22, then by all means bring it! Theres guys bringing hk-51s, Browning 1919a4's, and all sorts of toys. We will have about 15 or so square miles to shoot in, with a mountain being the backstop. There are people talking about bringing their personal .50 cals as well. Think of this as a weekend to bring out the toys, and have some fun, shotguns, rifles, handguns, everything is welcome to come play! For the daring, we have a 1000 yard ranged area set up as well!

I can be reached at anytime at Strmfeathr@yahoo.com or Loki@Stormfeather.com PLEASE PUT OLL SHOOT in the topic line so it doesnt get deleted by me ( by accident of course!) if you have any questions! For those that want to talk to me personally, please feel free to PM me and I will pass along my phone number to you. To those that have already sent me emails, I will be sending out this same info pretty much here by the end of business today!
Cant wait to see all those OLL's out there!
BTW!!!! If someone is interested in coming and has Photography Skills to capture this event on film, I would be more than happy to work out some sort of trade/barter for your skills!

A couple of small details i forgot,
1-when you send in the donations, make sure you also give me a shirt size, im seeing about getting shirts made, they wont be polo's or anything like that, just a normal t-shirt with a logo im making on the front, and a "zombie killer" cartoon I helped design on the back.
2- give me a area you would prefer to meet at depending on where you are coming from. I have a person in the Bay Area who is willing to meet and caravan with folks coming up to this to go to the sacramento/elk grove area which will be our starting point!
So, just let me know which is best for you, Sacramento, or San Francisco!
    Thanks again!

Im pretty sure that wont be a problem! But i will take that under advisment! The biggest thing most people will be doing is unlocking the 10 rd'ers and using standard compacity mags in them. But we will have a full set of tools there for people who want to go with the handgrip version!

                  Directions To Oll Heaven!!!!

Hey! Hows it going? We will be meeting up in Sacramento and from there driving up to Nevada on the I-80. Driving thru Reno on the I-80 thru to the city of Lovelock, approximately 75 miles past Reno, we will exit there at Main Street and follow it down to the intersection of State Route 398 (its only a few blocks down) we will turn right on SR 398 and go approximately 1 3/4 miles to SR 399. We will be turning Left onto SR 399 and following it as it turns into Seven Troughs Road. Follow 399/Seven Troughs Road thru to where Seven Troughs changes to a Dirt road exiting to the right hand side. It will be approximately 2.5 miles to Vernon. Look for a sign with the letters "O.L.L." on the side of the road pointing the correct way. This will be a pretty big sign, with red letters, so it wont be hard to see. At the point that you exit onto the dirt road, you will drive following this road for approximately 15 miles. You will drive up one small hill range, down into the valley, up another small range and down into the next valley. At one point, look for a old shot up van, and past that old rusted out DUMP TRUCK on the right hand side of the road. you will pass over a cattle guard on the road, and the next left will be where the shoot is. I will post a big sign where you exit from the main road to where it changes to a dirt road, and I will post a marker along the entire path approxmiately every mile and a half or so along the route once you hit the Dirt road. This should alleviate any concerns about whether you are heading the right way or not. The marker will be yellow caution tape streamer with 3 pieces of caution tape hanging from it so that way you know what it is. Any questions can be sent to me here at Strmfeathr@yahoo.com
Thanks alot and I look forward to seeing everyone out there. If you havent sent money to cover the Saturday night meal, Time is running out! Bring water, camping supplies, and food for the weekend. The person that is bringing the full autos has requested that those that wish to shoot them not use reloads, or "junk" ammo, ie; wolf ammo, Guatemalan corrosive, and a reminder to those that are wanting to shoot them, I personally am asking for a friendly donation to him to help him along as he is disabled.
                  Thanks alot all!

Just a reminder, there is a gunshow at Boomtown this coming weekend as well! So if you are heading up to the OLL shoot and you are low on ammo, this may very well be the place to stop by and pick up a case or two! "Buy it cheap and stack it deep" I believe is the saying!!

Because of the negative response that this idea has received from so many on AR-15.com, Ive chose to not hold the shoot. There will be a future shoot, as I have been in contact with Bob E. and Zach O. with Nevadas BLM offices. They squared me away with the exact protocol that I need to go thru to make this happen. Kudos to those guys. Very understanding and willing to tell me the exact process that needs to happen. I just wanted to follow this with a quick copy of the post that I sent to Ar-15.com about all the grief I recieved about it and my response to them. To all the Cal-guns.net folks who was so very supportive, I just wanted to say thank you very much. You proved to me the caliber of people can truly be different from one firearms website to another.
                        Till The Next Post!

                        William Stormfeather

Below is the post made to Ar-15.com

Wow, I never thought that this idea would come to all this. Let me clear the air on a couple of topics first off.
1- I was planning this get together for those of us in Kalifornia who have the OLL ar-s. It was in no way meant to offend the good citizens of Nevada, or to use, abuse, or rape their resources. The idea was suggested to me by good friends of getting a bunch of like minded gun owners together for a weekend and enjoy hanging out with like minded folks, who enjoy their guns, and wanted to spend a bit of quality time in a fun, non-threatening environment (ie; the state of Kalifornia). Im sure plenty of you remember those days, where you got together and made new friends, shot guns, looked at other peoples rifle systems and learned something new, or a new way to do something you have been doing differently. Thats all this was supposed to be. It wasnt supposed to be a name-calling whine/cry/moan festival. Did I go about this the wrong way? Because I didnt invite the shooters in Nevada? I had hopes that this would be a fun time for everyone. If I had known that this would have the far reaching effects that it did, I would have made a point of inviting not only all you great gun owners of Nevada, I would have invited Arizona and Oregon as well.
2- We have a friend who has a catering truck, thats the reason for the money for the food. As well as a buddy who works for a sanitation company, so we had 2 porta-pots lined up. We always believe in leaving shooting range the same way we found it, or in even better condition, thats just normal thinking, or so I would think.
3- Im not originally from Kalifornia, I had to move out here four yeas ago to help my grandmother when my grandfather passed away. I made the sacrafice to come out here from Ohio, (when no one else in my family could) where the mindset is pretty much the same as in Nevada. I gave up bringing the majority of my collection with me. I couldnt even bring a AR-15 with me. So when the idea of being able to purchase a ar-15 came about, even though it was in a OLL configuration, I jumped on the chance. I truly have a passion for firearms, and the AR is one of them. Having a chance to own one of these again, and use it in a more firearms friendly state, such as Nevada, appealed greatly to me. I know that us firearms owners in Kalifornia are not allowed the latitude that people in other states are, and while its nobodys fault but the people who vote them in office, Im proud to say I only vote for those who are pro-gun. Do I like the gun laws in Kalifornia? NO, do I have to live with them in the meantime until I can leave this state? Unfortunately, the answer to this is yes. Any reprieve that can be gained, if only for a weekend, I most assuredly will take.
4- Did I get grief over all this? Of course I did. You all seem intelligent enough to read the amount of grief and questioning, and detractors that ive had to deal with during the who time this idea came out. And yet, up until today, I was fully convinced that the people I was talking to were sensible, gun loving, 2nd amendment abiding, good fun people. Apparently I was wrong. Since this has happened, Ive seen 80% whine, moan, complain, crybaby, thumbsucking, and just plain outright meanness. Over what? wanting to get together with people and shoot. The few people who have written me and said, "hey great job. . . stick with it, dont let the *explative* get you down about this. . . its a great idea" I want to thank you for your kind words of encouragement and suggestions on how to make this better for everyone. And yet, nobody suggested inviting shooters from Nevada.
5- The behavior ive seen over this whole idea, has been shameful. Gun owners dont have to worry about the gun-grabbers taking our rights, you seem perfectly content to do it for them. At no point during this past month has there not been a day where someone was crying, complaining, or just outright being spiteful over the idea of this get together. Im ashamed to say that Im even associated with a group of people who would act as Ive seen on here. Ask yourself this, would you be associated/hang out with/go shooting with/invite out to dinner at a nice restuarant, with someone who acted as immature as you have seen on this thread? Yes, theres been a few that are willing to stand up and speak in the defense of shooting sports. And to those, I say congratulations, you are the very few Ive seen who are willing to stand by their principles. But for the most part, all Ive seen is folks are more worried about their egos, and why they wasnt invited. The reason I say this, is not a single one of you detractors wrote, and asked me, what about nevada shooters, what are your credentials, whats the shooting courses planned, can I just come out and watch? You just took it upon yourselves to assume, and not get all the facts. The full story. All sides of the story. get all the facts, then make a informed decision based upon those facts.
6- For those of you that did all that research, and tried to find out all you could about me. Why didnt you ask? I would have saved you the trouble. My name is Bill Stormfeather. my email is Strmfeathr@yahoo.com I also have a myspace profile, its www.myspace.com/Stormfeather You can also find me as the webmaster of the soon to be released website, www.zombiekillers.com (an Ar-15 related site) as well as www.stormfeather.com Please feel free to contact me at anytime with any suggestions you may have.
7- Well, since I went to all this trouble, I might as well inform you, that the shoot wont be happening this weekend. Am I still going shooting? You bet! Will it be in the same spot? No way in hell. Am I making plans for the shoot that I originally planned? Damn skippy I am. I just sent for the Special Events Permit packet from BLM, Will it be organized? You know it will, Do I have the insurance to cover it, sure do. Will I be charging? OH hell yes.. . an arm, leg, and a case of .223! Will I be inviting people from Nevada, of course, some of the best shooters I know are from Nevada. I wouldnt dream of doing this without them, just like this one I was wanting to organize this weekend. Will I post it on here. . . truly doubtful, as I said, Im ashamed to even be associated with some of the people that act the way that Ive seen on here. Ar-15.com posters are some of the best informed, and fun people to toss ideas around with, but in the same aspect, on the flip side of the coin, You have a group of ego-maniacs that I wouldnt trust with a potato gun on here as well, and theres no way I would want those people near me with a loaded gun.
In closure, its a shameful day in firearms ownership, when we all witness what just transpired. A person who wanted to get people together for a fun weekend of shooting, being "shot down" by "firearms enthusiasts" themselves. The majority of folks are more worried about covering their ****** and letting others do the work just so they can claim the credit, than getting out there and getting their hands dirty and doing the work needed to make it happen.
                        Sincerely,

Did things really get that bad? I've been keeping up with the threads regarding this shoot out of sheer envy for those who were able to attend. Its disappointing to to hear that an event no different than a group of friends getting together for a good time could raise so much "drama" for a lack of a better word. I noticed some treated it as a business venture, and though some of the arguments made legal sense, I was still left shaking my head. Makes me wonder if I have to be discreet next time I ask my friends to contribute funds for a camping trip or any sort of group that requires funding. As far as I could tell, people were having real issue with being charged money regardless of how reasonable the price was or how accomadating to tried to be. I'm just the new guy on this board and my words probably don't carry the same weight as the elite here, but I just wanted to commend you on your patience and efforts. Best of luck and count me in for the next one.

I was floored by the responses I was reading in the NV home town over on arfcom. I wonder how many of them come to CA and use our resources.
