Alternately, they can expand the 11a question on the 4473 to an essay instead of multiple choice. That way the buyer can describe the whole story, no one gets their panties all bunched up and we do not have to take so much time and waste it on a useless cause.
Buying a gun and handing it to some one who is legally prohibited from obtaining such should be the only definition of a straw purchase. One legal purchase of a gun plus one legal transfer of a gun should not add up to an illegal something. There is something wrong here.
Just my .02 cents on this.
It was political. Remember this is the ATF under the Obama administration that we're talking about.

Not a straw purchase if it was intended as a gift.

OP has clarified the "bonafide gift" nature of the transfer situation from his daughter. Which is perfectly legal. That was my intent when I cautioned about choice of words on open forums.

OP, I'm saddened by the news of your daughter's plight. Her gift to you will be one of a lifetime of memories you will cherish.

OP enjoy your new handgun and condolences for the situation you and your daughter are going through.

Glad you listened to your gut and didn't get ripped off OP. Many gun stores are on the up and up. But there's always a couple shady ones out there that you have to watch for.

There's one in Burbank that rhymes with Fun World. Only there's nothing fun about paying $55 for a transfer fee and $20 for a cable lock. I feel bad for those stupid enough to do it.

Califgoldminer, very sorry to hear about your daughter, my best wishes to you and your family. Don't worry about all the hub-bub as there are a fair number of people on this forum that will "discuss" the finest details of a subject for purely recreational reasons. You didn't start anything, you asked a question.

You are confused about this case. Because the firearm was purchased with his uncles money he was acting as his uncle's agent when purchasing the firearm. Because of this he did lie on the 4473. This case had nothing to do with gifting a firearm.

The case with Abramski came about solely because his uncle gave him the money for the purpose of Abramski buying his uncle a firearm. Once again this had absolutely nothing to do with gifting a firearm. Now quit spreading FUD.
