Pity. I really like their 1911s and was thinking of getting another. This is a deal breaker now.

I've never bought from either company but I did want a TRP in 9mm if they ever got around to that. Guess I'll look elsewhere for my 9mm 1911 needs

probably the worst thing a firearm manufactured could do. Especially one like Springfield who sell mainly to the public. If it was H&K, Colt, or FN who do mostly govt contracts it would make more sense.

Sorry for the huge photo, can't edit on my phone.

                      Well that's disappointing...

Just sent a strongly worded email. I feel unsatisfied, almost like I just ate McDonalds.

Okay fine, they are a business and we get that. But that being said, that business risks it's so called "strong pro-2nd Amendment position" when it supports legislation that will not only put other legal businesses (FFLs) out of business, but also harm citizens with their ability to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights to have access to guns.

SA / RRA can't have it both ways. The 2nd Amendment was not a "business decision". This thing is WAY worse than Ruger's misstep or S&W and that insulting trigger lock. This legislation will restrict 2nd Amendment rights.

I hope this ends up being a bad business decision. I hope FFLs bad mouth this company into the ground across the country.

This will require all private party transfers to be done through an IL FFL dealer. ("universal background checks")

Before the legislation was amended, the legislation limited IL licensed gun dealer to Type 01-FFL, Type 02-FFL, and Type 09-FFL.
There was no exemptions for Type 06-FFL, Type 07-FFL, Type 08-FFL, Type 10-FFL and Type 11-FFL.

IL based firearms manufacturers (Springfield Armory, Rock River Arms, etc), represented by the Illinois Firearms Manufacturers Association (IFMA), opposed SB1657.

After the legislation was amended, IL licensed gun dealer included all FFL Types.

Once it was amended, IL based firearms manufacturers switched from opposing the legislation to supporting it.

                          Basic Summary:
They are supporting "universal background checks" in IL, because they were given exemptions to it.

They switched from opposing to neutral. There were three positions support, neutral, oppose.

Likely they could not afford any other option. It's not a great year for gun sales.

Realistically I don't expect them to fall on the sword and go out of business. They have employees.

Then they need to go into business selling hula-hoops and not claim to be supporters of the 2nd Amendment.

Reese is such a snake. He's already got that politician double-speak goin' on. This was his statement BEFORE the vote.

The prime funders of IFMA are Springfield Armory and Rock River Arms. In response to a request for comment on the deal, Springfield Armory CEO Dennis Reese gave TTAG the following statement:

“The legislative process is a fluid process. The bill has only moved through one chamber, and it is still in the process. We fully support the Second Amendment and stand by it. The Illinois Manufacturers Association will continue to fight and protect not only manufacturers, but dealers and the gun owner as well.”
I wonder how he feels now that it's passed.

They should support their customer base if they expect to stay in business. Otherwise they are betraying their employees and their customers.

Just ask S&W if they will be supporting any further gun control measures.
