LE Selling off Roster (ATF, SoCal)

Recently heard a news report on the local radio station talking about ATF and California DOJ cracking down on police officers who are selling their half roster handguns. Not the officer who buys a bunch of them only to resell them but the officer who is ...say retiring...and is selling off some of the guns that he had while on duty.

The news report was somewhat vague but it is sounding as if they are starting to come after those officers. Anybody hear anything about this?

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives sent out a letter to Southern California police departments informing them that officers are buying and reselling guns, which could be a violation of federal firearms laws.

          Article doesn't contain much information..
This has be hashed over and over..
The test case was in Sacramento.. There was officers of the Sheriff's office there and SAC PD and Roseville PD that were buying off roster guns and immediately turning around and selling them off at inflated prices.

OP this is old news being rehashed.

If this is what was reported, I'd call it fake news. No laws being broken in that scenario.

Now, active LEO who buy and sell for profit, no doubt they are after those guys.

Who do you think is selling most of the overpriced off roster guns on Calguns. This is nothing new.

Yes!! Everyone selling a gun in the marketplace is a Law Enforcement Officer.
They are cornering the market on off roster guns.

When people move into this state they are forbidden from brining in off roster guns.

Family is forbidden from sending off roster guns to family.

There maybe a few doing that.. But there is the California Off Roster price adjustment.

Individuals just happen to be in the right place at the right time to grab great deals and turn them around.

Your reading far too much into this.. This is to stop those officers who buy popular off roster guns and immediately turn around and sell them off..

Nothing to stop an LEO from buying something and trying it out and discovering that they do not like the firearm, Does this mean they can't sell it off?

If it wasn't for LEO bringing Off Rosters into CA, prices of Off Roster guns would be a lot higher, no? Supply and Demand.

Hard to guess what ATF is doing and how Cal DOJ will what it does. Watch the state change the law for LE and req letter to buy and no resale

It's almost as if you restrict something a black (or in this case, "grey") market crops up to satisfy demand.

That surprises no one. I think the surprising part is how profitable it has been for the officers who have exploited their elevated status above the citizens. If police unions hadn't bargained a carve out for their support, these laws would probably have still passed. Would prices be higher and off roster guns rarer? Probably. However I'd rather that than have the hypocrisy that is the "safe" roster, more equal than others, and all that.
