    Comparing handguns

I am doing a side by side comparison of two relatively high end handguns. They are the Wilson Combat CQB Elite in 45 ACP, and the STI DVC Tactical 3 Gun in 9mm.

They are both really nice guns. I have only shot the STI, and then only to check to see if my reloads would cycle in it (they did not). I can't seem to stop holding the Wilson and racking the slide. It is different than any slide I have racked before in that there is almost no noise, and it is quite tight and difficult to rack. By difficult, I do not mean in a binding way. It is actually butter smooth, with no play at all. It just takes a lot of effort to move the slide. When I rack the STI, it sounds like every other gun I have shot, and it is easy to do a press check with only minor effort.

The triggers on the two guns feel almost exactly the same, even though the STI has a 2.5 pound trigger, and the Wilson a 5 pound trigger. Using my off hand to press the trigger, and keeping my eyes closed, the pull feels the same, with a crisp break.

I guess that it must be the Wilson that is just that much superior to everything else that I have held. It is the first one for me, so I guess that I will have to get used to it.

I've heard most high-end 1911's can be difficult to rack without being assertive. I'll never know without winning the lottery. Enjoy!

I'll bet you a large number #3 at the hamburger drive-thru place that your expensive wilson has a 3rd world Chinese counterfeit quality frame & slide on it.

Shall we continue the comparison or should we go back to discussing triggers?

I'm surprised that Wilson has such a high trigger pull weight unless it was requested that way. Usually the wilsons are between 3.5 to 4lbs trigger weight.

            Um...what?

What's your source for that claim?

Lets see....maybe the serial numbers on the frame?

Not too sure what country for sure, but I do know the factory of origin has a French sounding name...sounds like, 'Fur-Shet'.

You mean the serial number that Wilson puts on the frame themselves and starts out WC...for Wilson Combat? Or is there some other hidden serial number? And again, do you have a source for this information?

Check the Number before the 'WC'.

In the past they were made in China, then it was the Philippines. The Frames arrive outside United States, then someone, puts in another X percent of work to the frame, bingo, approved for importation & sale to an unsuspecting shooter near you.

The last person who puts in the last amount of work gets to claim manufacturer of the entire frame.

Companies such as S&W, Ruger, Remington, will, if you ask them nicely, will schedule a trip thru the factory floor were you can see the frames being built from scratch. Not WC, and I doubt Lester Baer or the people who make the night hawk or night owl or whatever they call it will either. Why? Yeah, I wonder why.

Is it really some kind of secret why certain 1911 brand name frames are consistently in the winner's circle at these high dollar action pistol shooting events? Clue; it isn't WC.

In response to some inaccuracies posted online about the heritage of Wilson Combat slides and frames, here are some pics of our facility in Arkansas turning American forgings and billets into American made, Wilson Combat slides and frames. I can post hundreds of these pics. If anyone ever...

Pretty sure WC will give a factory tour....unless all those YouTube videos of WC factory tours are fake.

Cock the hammer before you rack the slide. It will rack much easier.
