I used the same kind of led tape. I used the inside edge(painted steel) and went all around. I used a magnetic reed switch to turn on and off the lights mounted to the door

The only way to go imo.

And for you guys who think it's too much work or a flashlight or a "Puck" light is sufficient.....man oh man have you seen a led lit safe? It's truly a joy to behold. It's SO nice when you open it up.....and it's SO worth the 30 mins to set it up.

Maybe if you never go in there...but I'm in my safe almost every day and will never have another safe without one.

gti_20ae's kit is the best solution and is reasonably priced. I'm not a fan of those DIY kits that look like Clockboy himself had a go at the safe. Those puck lights and motion lights eat batteries and insufficiently light all but the smallest of safes.

All the motion activated puck lights I've ever tried were like that. Ate batteries like crazy.

But not the Sam's Club remote activated lights. At least I don't think so. I've replaced the batteries once, but I think that was after about a year. I'll have to pay more attention next time. It comes with 5 very small pucks that I simply screwed into the safe in strategic spots where you can't even see the puck. It lights up just like my friend's fancy $7,500 safe. He was shocked at how well it worked.

You can keep the remote anywhere you like, inside or outside the safe. One button press and they're all on. Want a different color? One more press and presto! Want it on a timer? One more press.

I also like that it doesn't come on automatically. I have another friend that heard a bump in the night while sleeping. He opened his safe and said it blinded him and messed up his night vision for another 5 minutes. Not good. He also noticed it lit up that whole side of the house. Not good. Not only did it blind him and give away his position, it also backlit him for an easy shot by a bad guy. Fortunately the bump was just raccoons. I have my puck lights set to red just because of his experience. If I need more light during awake times, it's one button press to white.

This pretty much highlights the need to keep a firearm available rather than in a safe. making "preparations" and lighting decisions to get your gun out of a locked safe at night with your life depending on it is pretty dumb.

He has kids and this was before the bedside pistol safes came out. He also wanted his AR instead of a pistol. Whenever I have friends with kids visiting and staying over, I put everything in the safe. So it's still a good idea to consider that possibility. You never know what situation you may find yourself in, so it's best to be ready for anything. What if your bedside pistol safe doesn't open for some reason?

                Thus red.

Just got finished installing LED strip lighting in my safe last weekend. The 16.5 feet of LED lights was 9.00 on Amazon and the transformer was 11.99. I had about 1-2 feet left over when I was finished. All held on with VHB double sided tape.

Bought my kit from Maxmysafe. Good guy and very responsive. Very happy with the kit I bought from them.
