Actually, I think it's misguided to consider the purchase price of the gun. Dare I say it's irrelevant? It's the cost of the ammo and the maintenance that should be your primary concern. You should be asking if you can afford .45 ACP in adequate quantity, the expensive magazines, etc. With the gun, you buy once, cry once. With the 'ammo, if you like things like .45 ACP and .308 like me, you'll be crying A LOT...

Save and get the pistol you REALLY want.

"Buy once, cry once" and you'll never have any regrets.

There was a Remington R1 for sale the other day on here. They are very nice after a couple of mods.

            Found it

In Los Angeles city the city will not approve any home based ffl even for ffl 07. I just spoke with the atf about this the other day.

I hear and understand what your saying but maybe look at it from a different perspective. Maybe your that guy with a limited budget and can't afford a 1911 more than $1000 but they still want to own one. Or maybe your that guy that coudnt normally afford to purchase that 1911 but your tax return just came in but its only for $1000. Maybe they are satisfied starting of with one or two mags with plans of acquiring more as funds permit. Maybe they don't shoot as often as some of us. Maybe maybe maybe.....

My point is, not everyone is in the position to step up to the bigger purchase. And not everyone feels the need to own a slicked up Dan Wesson.

                To the OP,

One thing you may want to consider is current promotions. Springfield is offering a "Gear Up and Go" promotion at the moment. It gives you 4 extra mags and a factory plastic mag holder and belt holster f you buy a Springfield firearm. So if you purchased some Springfield variant of the 1911 you would have 6 magazine for your gun right out the gate. The advertise it as a $180 value or something. Food for thought.

I just bought a springer 1911 Loaded for $800 last weekend at Wild Sports. With the gear up promo that's the gun, mag holster, gun holster and 6 factory magazines for $887.97 out the door after taxes and fees.

$1,000,00 dollars will look a lot better in your account earning interest. Don't waste it on that.
