Which $1000.00 1911

Which 1911 would one consider to purchase for 1000.00. I've been researching the Colt Competition Government Model (exempt) and Springfield Operator Model.

Not for a while apparently. I have been trying to get in touch with local ATF to find out if it is true, but I have had someone tell me that they no longer issue licenses to Home Based businesses.

I don't think u can go wrong with the bigger name brands (DW, NH, Springer, LB, Wilson, Colt, EB) but depends on what options u want on the firearm and what purpose you have for it...it's all personal preference. From what I gather the quality of stainless steel has improved over the years specially the machining and fit.

OP, for the price of 1000.00 I believe you have two choices on CA roster. Springfield or Kimber. I personally would pick a Springer (no complicated firing pin safety, ILS system u can change easily) I have several under 1000.00 all have been great.

Used they are.
You can get a Springfield Loaded for under a grand. Maybe even an MC Operator used. Then as the funds appear, you can upgrade.
I'd go Springer, and yes, I have owned both Springer and Kimber.

R sigs internals inter-changeable with after market 1911 parts, I know Springers are but don't know if Kimbers are too. Sigs I now have the external extractor which I know is not applicable to other after market parts. I have Springfields but no experience with Sigs and Kimbers.

Springfield Loaded should be available for less than $1k if you look enough.

Dan Wesson PM7 is on roster and pretty close to your price range. It might be $1,200 or so. In my opinion, it is far superior to any other comparably priced 1911. No MIM parts, all hand fitted. It is not a production line gun like the others are. Lots of reviews online stating this as well as some nice head to head tests as well.

Spend a little more and get a Kimber TLE RL II.

Actually, I think it's misguided to consider the purchase price of the gun. Dare I say it's irrelevant? It's the cost of the ammo and the maintenance that should be your primary concern. You should be asking if you can afford .45 ACP in adequate quantity, the expensive magazines, etc. With the gun, you buy once, cry once. With the 'ammo, if you like things like .45 ACP and .308 like me, you'll be crying A LOT...
