4x the fee to excercise a right

The Democratic governor wants to quadruple the five-year renewal fee for pistol permits from $70 to $300 as part of his plan to offset a budget deficit estimated at $1.7 billion in the next fiscal year. For people getting their first five-year pistol permits, the fees would increase from $140 to $370, which includes a $70 charge collected by cities and towns. The proposed fees would be among the highest in the country.
$300! To get a permit to exercise a right!?!? So what id they start charging to vote again? How would that work out? You know....to offset the budget.
The liberal see's the glass as half full and tries to take more.
The conservative see's glass as half empty and tries to keep it that way.
I'm with the people on the side just pouring water in the glass trying to get a drink!

Keep in mind that Gov Malloy is a foaming-at-the-mouth anti-gun zealot. This should not be surprising. I am amazed that our state overlords here in CA haven't done the same.

they will now since the news are reporting it.

they will probably put it on the next ballot for November, and it will pass easily b/c the general mass of idiot voters will think it is a good idea.

Yep.... I overheard a customer in front of me complaining to the cashier about having to show ID to buy cough syrup. Then they exchanged the reasoning behind it and suddenly the burden was OK.

However, had I butted in and said, "...then why isn't it ok to make people provide ID to vote!" I probably would have had the cops called on me for being a racist, white, male, privileged, homo-phobic, environment hating, Trump supporter.

Yup, they'll just promise some of the future revenue to school lunches, or some legal defense fund for illegal aliens, and the left will waive it through like S*** through a goose!

Except they have been doing the same thing in CA for a long time. Just look up the contra costa sheriffs posse. Only those with money or political ties could join.

How about a $10,000.00anual fee for holding a public job, even an elected one? Call it a license fee.

that sucks. I would hate to have a new 300 dollar bill, even if it is once every 5 years.

                    That'd be no problem.

People still take jobs in the US Senate with a $174,000 although the average successful campaign costs $10.5 million which is over ten times that at $1,750,000 per year.

The career step and extras which come with government positions more than make up for the cost.

I like the story of Representative Billy Tauzin who got drug industry executives to pay for his 1500 acre ranch through "hunting club memberships." After he did a good job for them passing Medicare Part D they made him the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America president and CEO with a $2M salary and eight figures in his final year (PhRMA fired Billy when they didn't like the drug discounts he gave out negotiating with the White House on the Affordable Care Act).

That wasn't his only possible promotion from his position as US Representative - he reportedly turned down a $1.5M annual compensation package to be the Motion Picture Association of America's chief lobbyist.

OTOH, maybe we should be paying the President like a CEO and Congress People who are mostly lawyers like law firm equity partners. That could get us people willing to make lateral career moves who aren't getting into politics for the power.

Give it time....they will. seems like there was a proposed bill recently to remove the fee cap and let agencies charge fees to charge "reasonable fees to cover the cost of processing"......which was just legalese for "for charge as much as you want to discourage people from applying".

Imagine the liberal s***storm if someone suggested implementing a state mandated fee for performance of an abortion in order to make up for their excessive spending.

                              Here $300 would be cheap.

Deep in the heart of occupied LA county in the state of CrapOfornia. It is impossible to get a CCW unless you are Well Connected. And if you could get one. The overall costs would total close to $1,000.
